Windows 11 documents Ctrl+Alt+Minus to switch between Magnifier’s set zoom level and 1× magnification. Microsoft’s instructions do not document a built-in way to reassign that shortcut. You can change the zoom level and zoom increments in Accessibility settings instead.

Switch Magnifier between your chosen zoom and 1×

Press Ctrl+Alt+Minus to switch between the current magnification level and 1×. Microsoft describes this as switching between the set magnification level and 1× magnification—not locking or unlocking zoom.

This does not lock your PC. Windows+L locks the computer and is separate from Magnifier’s zoom control.

Change the zoom level or increment

With a mouse

  1. Open Start > Settings > Accessibility > Magnifier.
  2. Use the Zoom level controls to change magnification.
  3. Use the Zoom increments dropdown to change how much magnification changes at a time.

With Narrator and the keyboard

  1. Press Windows+Ctrl+M to open Magnifier settings.
  2. Press Tab to move to the Zoom controls or the Zoom increments setting.
  3. Use the available controls to adjust the setting you need.

Turn Magnifier on or off

  • Press Windows+Plus to quickly turn on Magnifier.
  • Press Windows+Esc to turn Magnifier off.

Can you assign a different shortcut?

Microsoft’s Magnifier instructions document Ctrl+Alt+Minus for the zoom toggle, but do not explain how to reassign it. They also do not establish a built-in Windows setting for changing that assignment. If you need a different key combination, these instructions do not provide a supported remapping method; changing the zoom level or increment in Magnifier settings is the documented alternative.
