Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Start by recording the exact error text, any hexadecimal or stop code, your Windows build (run winver), your PC’s make and model, and the feature or app that triggered the problem. “Hypervisor error” can mean a virtualization feature will not start, Memory Integrity has flagged an incompatible driver, or Windows has crashed; a fix for one case may not help another.
1. Identify what is actually failing
Before changing settings, note whether the problem is a virtual machine or another virtualization-dependent feature that will not start, a Memory Integrity warning, or a recurring blue or black screen. For a crash, capture the stop code and any “What failed” module name shown on screen. This distinction determines which checks are relevant.

- Record the complete on-screen message and any code.
- Run
winverto note your Windows version and build. - Write down the PC make and model, the app or feature involved, and recent hardware or driver changes.
Microsoft’s stop-code troubleshooting guidance and its blue-screen guidance address crashes; a feature that simply will not launch needs a different diagnosis.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2. Check whether hardware virtualization is enabled in UEFI
Hardware virtualization can be disabled in a PC’s UEFI or BIOS, though many Windows devices already have it enabled. Check the setting before changing it. The name varies by manufacturer and may include a reference to virtualization technology or SVM.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- In Windows, open Settings > System > Recovery.
- Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Settings, then restart into firmware settings.
- Find the hardware virtualization option, enable it if needed, save, and restart.
Menu names and firmware controls differ across PCs. Follow your PC maker’s instructions; Microsoft’s virtualization setup guidance links to manufacturer instructions. Change only the setting you need: unrelated firmware changes can prevent Windows from starting or being accessed.
3. Check Virtual Machine Platform when the feature requires it
For the virtualization setup described by Microsoft, Virtual Machine Platform may need to be enabled. This is not a universal requirement for every message containing the word “hypervisor”; check it when the Windows feature or app you are trying to use depends on it. Microsoft notes the setting may apply after upgrading from Windows 10.
- Search Windows for Turn Windows features on or off and open the result.
- Check Virtual Machine Platform if it is not already enabled.
- Select OK and restart if Windows asks you to.
If the box is already checked or the failing feature does not require this component, changing it is unlikely to address an unrelated driver warning or system crash.

4. Follow a Memory Integrity driver warning
Memory Integrity, also called Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI), uses hardware virtualization. Microsoft states, “To use memory integrity, you must have hardware virtualization enabled in your system’s UEFI or BIOS.” If Windows Security names an incompatible driver, use that driver name as the lead rather than disabling a security feature as a first step.
- Note the incompatible driver named in the Memory Integrity warning.
- Check the device or app manufacturer’s support information for a compatible driver update.
- If no compatible driver is available, Microsoft’s guidance says you may need to remove the device or app that uses the incompatible driver.
See Microsoft’s Device Security in the Windows Security app guidance for Memory Integrity and incompatible drivers.
5. Troubleshoot a crash by its stop code
If Windows repeatedly crashes or shows a blue or black screen, treat the stop code as the key evidence. A hypervisor-related phrase by itself does not establish that a virtualization setting caused the crash. Microsoft’s general crash guidance includes checking drivers and considering recently added hardware.

- Use the stop code and any named module to guide troubleshooting.
- Review driver changes around the time the crashes began and check for appropriate updates.
- If you recently added hardware, use Microsoft’s general troubleshooting advice to consider removing it and checking whether the crash recurs.
These are general Windows crash steps, not a guaranteed fix for every hypervisor-related stop code. Refer to Microsoft’s unexpected restart and stop-code troubleshooting and blue-screen guidance.
6. Check for the specific 2026 Secure Boot update issue only if it matches
Microsoft documented a narrow Hyper-V guest issue involving Secure Boot certificate updates in an article published March 23, 2026. This is relevant only if your symptoms match that documented Secure Boot/update scenario; it is not a general repair for virtualization errors.
For the documented Event ID 1795 case, Microsoft says the update-based fix must be installed on both the host and the guest. Follow the scenario-specific instructions and timing on Microsoft’s known issues and resolutions for Secure Boot certificate updates page.

7. Use the device maker’s firmware and driver instructions
Firmware menus, available settings, and compatible drivers depend on the PC and its components. Use the manufacturer’s documentation for your exact model rather than guessing at a firmware option or installing an unrelated driver. Microsoft’s virtualization page links to instructions from PC makers and advises consulting device documentation when a maker is not listed.
8. Escalate with the details needed to diagnose it
If the problem remains, give the PC maker or support technician a compact record of the failure. Include:
