No official Nintendo Switch 2 version or compatibility confirmation for Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced in Rockstar’s current platform listing. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not Switch 2. If GTA 6 is the reason you’re considering a console, don’t buy a Switch 2 on the assumption it will play the game. Check Rockstar’s listing again before purchasing because platform plans can change.
What platforms does Rockstar currently list for GTA 6?
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions FAQ lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its FAQ was last updated August 18, 2026. Nintendo Switch 2 does not appear on the list, so the official material does not confirm a Switch 2 release or compatibility.

That is the clearest evidence for a buying decision today; it does not establish that a later port is impossible. The official sources reviewed also give no Switch 2 release date, price, game build, frame rate, resolution, or benchmark.

Does Switch 2 backward compatibility mean it can run GTA 6?
No. Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible Nintendo Switch games, while warning that some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible. It directs players to the publisher for specific compatibility information about third-party games. That guidance concerns compatibility with existing Switch games; it does not confirm a GTA 6 version for Switch 2.

Nintendo describes Switch 2 as having improved CPU and GPU performance compared with Switch, but general hardware capabilities are not a test of a particular game. They cannot confirm that GTA 6 exists for the system or establish how it would perform.
What to check before you buy
- Check Rockstar’s platform listing. Open the current platforms, editions, and versions FAQ close to your purchase. The last-stated update in that FAQ is August 18, 2026; look for an explicit Switch 2 listing rather than relying on speculation.
- Confirm the platform on the product listing. Rockstar currently names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check that the console shown is the one you intend to use.
- Check format and region. Rockstar says the physical version is a box containing a download code, not a disc, and advises matching the code’s region to the platform account. Confirm the code and account region suit your situation before buying.
- Decide whether you are willing to wait. If you want GTA 6 on a platform Rockstar currently lists, choose a supported platform. If you specifically want to play on Switch 2, wait for an explicit announcement rather than treating a rumor or hardware specification as confirmation.
