Most newer Galaxy phones do not have built-in ANT+. Samsung said in a Samsung Members response dated October 11, 2022, that ANT+ was removed starting with the 2020 Galaxy Note20 generation and is not supported on Galaxy phones released afterward. An external USB ANT+ stick may work with some Android phones and apps, but Samsung does not officially support that dongle setup—and Samsung Health compatibility is unconfirmed.
Does Samsung Health work with an ANT+ USB dongle?
Samsung has not confirmed that connecting an ANT+ USB dongle will let ANT+ sensors pair with Samsung Health. In its Samsung Members response, a Samsung ANT+ representative said Samsung cannot guarantee that USB dongles will work because Samsung does not officially support them. ANT’s Android USB instructions describe a possible connection route, not a guarantee for Samsung Health or any specific Galaxy model.

The practical distinction is that a phone may recognize an ANT+ stick while the fitness app still cannot use it. The app must support ANT+ through the USB service path; sensor compatibility alone is not enough.
Which Galaxy phones have built-in ANT+?
Samsung’s 2022 response identifies the 2020 Galaxy Note20 generation as the point after which Galaxy phones no longer support ANT+. Treat that as Samsung’s stated generation cutoff, not a model-by-model check of every phone or regional variant. If you have an older Galaxy, confirm ANT+ support for its exact model rather than assuming it is present.

For context, a Samsung Knox application inventory for the Galaxy Note10 LTE (N970U1) lists ANT Radio Service. That establishes a specific legacy-device example, not support across every older Galaxy.
Can an external ANT+ stick work with an Android phone?
ANT documents a USB Host setup for compatible Android devices. It can be a workaround if the phone, stick, Android services, and fitness app all support the connection. It is not an officially supported Samsung fix, and compatibility with Samsung Health is not established.

Check these requirements first
- USB Host support: The phone must be able to act as a USB host. ANT says eligibility for its USB Service in Google Play can indicate USB Host support, but check the exact phone and setup.
- Compatible stick and connector: Use an ANT-supported USB stick; an OTG cable or adapter may be needed depending on the phone’s port and the stick.
- Required services: ANT’s setup guidance names ANT USB Service, ANT Radio Service, and ANT+ Plugins.
- App support: The fitness app must support ANT+ over the USB service route. Some older apps expect built-in ANT and may not work with a USB-attached stick.
ANT’s ANT USB Service listing explicitly excludes USB1 sticks from compatibility with the newer USB service. Check the stick generation and the app’s current requirements before buying or connecting hardware.

- Identify the exact Galaxy model and check whether it supports USB Host.
- Confirm that the ANT stick is supported by ANT USB Service and is not a USB1 stick. Check whether your phone needs an OTG cable or adapter.
- Install or check ANT USB Service, ANT Radio Service, and ANT+ Plugins, subject to their current availability for your device.
- Check the fitness app’s documentation or ask its developer whether it supports an external USB ANT connection.
- Connect the stick and sensor, then follow the app’s pairing steps. Do not treat successful USB recognition as confirmation that Samsung Health or another app can read the sensor.

What should you do if your ANT+ sensor will not connect?
- Newer Galaxy phone, no dongle: Built-in ANT+ is not supported on Galaxy phones released after the Note20-era transition Samsung described. The sensor cannot connect through built-in ANT+ on that basis.
- Dongle connects, app does not find the sensor: Check whether the app supports external USB ANT. Some older apps require built-in ANT.
- Phone does not recognize the stick: Recheck USB Host support, the stick’s compatibility, and whether the physical connection needs an OTG adapter.
- Samsung Health is the target: Do not assume the dongle route works. Samsung’s cited response does not confirm support; seek confirmation for your exact device and setup before purchasing a stick for this purpose.
If a sensor also broadcasts Bluetooth, Bluetooth may be an alternative when the phone and fitness app support that connection. That depends on the sensor and app; it is not a universal workaround for unreliable Bluetooth connections.

ANT+ is used by accessories such as heart-rate straps, running foot pods, cycling power meters, scales, and blood-pressure monitors. Those categories describe possible ANT uses, not guaranteed support in Samsung Health. The phone’s connection path and the app’s support still determine whether a particular sensor can be used.
