Why play Red Dead Redemption 2?
A story about loyalty and survival
The story begins in 1899, after a robbery in Blackwater goes wrong. Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are trying to survive as pressure closes in and divisions grow within the group. Rockstar frames Arthur’s central conflict as a choice between his ideals and loyalty to the gang that raised him. Rockstar’s description
That premise makes Red Dead Redemption 2 the stronger match if you want the Western setting to support a long-form character drama rather than primarily serve as a backdrop for RPG systems.

Rockstar lists both Story Mode and Red Dead Online. Its online description names roles including Bounty Hunter, Trader, Collector, Moonshiner, and Naturalist. If you searched for a Wild West RPG because you want a game explicitly classified as an action RPG, Weird West: Definitive Edition is the clearer match.
