Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallYouTube usually rejects a live stream resolution when the encoder sends a different width and height from the resolution selected in YouTube Live Control Room’s Ingestion Settings. Match those dimensions first, then check the stream-health message for related bitrate, codec, frame-rate, or keyframe errors. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not identify a separate resolution rule for streams that run 24/7.
Why YouTube says the resolution is wrong
YouTube checks the video dimensions arriving from your encoder against the resolution selected in the stream’s Ingestion Settings. For example, if the selected setting is 1920 × 1080 but the encoder sends 1280 × 720, the dimensions do not match and YouTube may flag the stream as the wrong or unsupported size. The selected resolution and the encoder’s actual output must agree. YouTube’s live-stream error guide explains this check.

This is not, according to YouTube’s reviewed guidance, a special restriction on 24/7 streams. Continuous operation does make it especially important to choose a mode your encoder and connection can sustain, but the first diagnostic is still the same: compare the exact outgoing dimensions with the selected ingestion resolution.

- Read the precise health message. In YouTube Live Control Room, open the stream-health information and note whether it says “Incorrect video size (resolution)” or identifies a different issue. Errors are timestamped; unresolved issues continue to be shown. Critical errors can prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems, while moderate errors can reduce quality. YouTube explains live encoder error messages here.
- Find the encoder’s actual output size. Check the outgoing stream or output settings for width × height, not just the resolution of the source video or project. A source file can be one size while the encoder scales it to another.
- Compare it with Ingestion Settings. In Live Control Room, open the stream’s Ingestion Settings and compare the selected resolution with the encoder output. Change either the encoder output or the selected setting so the width and height match.
- Check manual resolution settings if applicable. YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you use a custom stream key with manual settings, verify that its Stream Resolution setting is the intended one. YouTube documents manual configuration for custom stream keys in its encoder-settings guidance.
- Preview before relying on the feed. Start a test stream, watch Live Control Room’s health messages, and confirm that the feed is accepted at the intended size before leaving it running continuously.
Choose a resolution your connection can sustain
A matching resolution can still be unstable if the encoder’s bitrate is unsuitable or the upload connection cannot sustain it. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate; use the row for your actual mode rather than applying one bitrate to every stream. The figures below are YouTube’s encoder recommendations on its current settings page, accessed in 2026, not guarantees of performance on a particular connection. See YouTube’s full encoder settings and bitrate table.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Hardware H.265/H.264 Encoding at 1080P60】Dedicated hardware encoder delivers broadcast-quality 1080P60 streams with H.265/H.264 compression. Reduces bandwidth usage by up to 50% compared to legacy H.264-only solutions, while maintaining crisp, crystal-clear video output.
- 【Broad Protocol Support for IP Distribution】 Supports SRT, RTMP(S), RTSP, UDP, HTTP, HLS, WebRTC, TRTC, Icecast and SHOUTcast — integrate seamlessly with CDNs, surveillance NVRs, IPTV systems and browser-based monitoring dashboards. One device replaces multiple single-purpose streaming boxes.
- 【Browser-Based Setup in Minutes】 Set up in minutes through any browser — no software, drivers or OS compatibility issues. DHCP is enabled by default to prevent IP address conflicts on your network. Note: basic networking knowledge (IP address, RTSP/RTMP configuration) is recommended for advanced streaming setups.
- 【Compact Design with Flexible Deployment】Palm-sized form factor (approx. 90×54×29mm) fits easily behind monitors, on shelves, or in equipment racks. Low power consumption ensures reliable 24/7 operation for live events, remote monitoring, and digital signage.
- 【Professional Audio & OSD Overlay + 1-Year Warranty】 Supports HDMI embedded audio plus external 3.5mm input. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
| Codec | Resolution and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| H.264 | 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| H.264 | 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 1080p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
For a 24/7 feed, weigh picture detail against reliability. Choose a resolution the encoder can output at exactly the selected dimensions, and a bitrate the upload connection can hold steadily. If YouTube reports insufficient bandwidth, its error guidance recommends considering a lower selected resolution. Test the upload bitrate and stream health rather than assuming a connection’s advertised speed will be continuously available to the stream.
Check the settings that can accompany a resolution error
A resolution warning may appear alongside another configuration problem. YouTube’s current English encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. Square pixels and progressive scan are recommended. Use the full, current table for the specific protocol and codec you have chosen. YouTube’s encoder settings page contains the detailed requirements.

Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
- Bitrate: Match it to codec, resolution, and frame rate; reduce the selected resolution if the connection cannot sustain the chosen mode.
- Video format: Confirm the encoder is using a supported codec and format.
- Scan type: Use progressive video rather than interlaced video.
- Frame rate: Confirm it is supported and consistent with the selected stream mode.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a keyframe every two seconds and no more than four seconds between keyframes.
- Audio: Check that the audio codec and format are supported, even if the warning initially looks like a video issue.
- Primary and backup feeds: If using failover, verify that both feeds use matching settings.
Test a continuous stream before leaving it unattended
YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and testing the feed before relying on it. If you have a primary and backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary feed or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then verify that the player switches to the backup. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover testing and monitoring.

Do not buy new hardware solely because YouTube reports an incorrect resolution. The documented fix is to correct and verify the stream configuration, and YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started with live streaming. First establish the exact health error, outgoing dimensions, selected resolution, codec, frame rate, and bitrate.
