Go to Dazzle Beach with plain Seaweed, approach while the turtle is hiding in its shell, stop moving, and wait for its head to come out. When the feeding prompt appears, select Seaweed. Seaweed is the favorite food for the Black, Brown, Classic, Purple, and White Sea Turtle variants.
The quickest way to feed a Sea Turtle
Use this sequence in order:
- Obtain plain Seaweed by fishing outside a visible fishing spot in the valley.
- Check that the Sea Turtle variant you want is scheduled to appear today and during the current time window.
- Travel to Dazzle Beach, where Sea Turtles spawn.
- Walk toward the turtle until it retreats into its shell, then stop. Do not chase it or repeatedly press the interact button.
- Wait beside the shell until the turtle’s head emerges.
- Interact with the turtle and choose Seaweed from the food selection.
A turtle that is still tucked inside its shell is not ready to be fed. The shell animation is the approach state: the game is asking you to wait, not to force the interaction. Once the head appears, the prompt should become available.

Why the feeding prompt does not work
The turtle is still hiding
Sea Turtles use a wait-to-approach behavior. They hide as you come near and become feedable only after they emerge. Standing still is more effective than following the turtle around the beach. If you keep moving toward it, the animal can remain in its defensive animation and the interaction prompt will not appear.
Move close enough to trigger the shell reaction, then release movement controls. Give the turtle time to bring its head out. Pressing the interact button while it is still fully enclosed generally does nothing because the feeding state has not started.

You brought the wrong item
Plain Seaweed is the favorite food for all five listed Sea Turtle colors: Black, Brown, Classic, Purple, and White. A general seafood item is not equivalent to the favorite-food requirement.
This distinction matters for Dreamlight Duties and other objectives that specifically ask for a critter’s favorite food. Seafood is a liked-food category, but the favorite item is Seaweed. Festive Squid is excluded from the liked seafood list described for this critter, so it is not a substitute for Seaweed.

Check the item name in your inventory before leaving for the beach. Carrying another fish or a cooked seafood recipe can make it look as though the turtle is refusing food when the real issue is that the required favorite item is absent.
The variant is not available at this time
All Sea Turtle colors use Dazzle Beach, but they do not share one continuous appearance schedule. A beach with no Black Turtle, for example, may simply be following the normal rotation rather than suffering from a broken spawn.
Use the schedule reference below to identify the expected color and time window. The game’s current appearance is the final check, because schedules can change with updates.
You already used the turtle’s daily feeding
Community-maintained critter data indicates that only the first successful feeding of a Sea Turtle each day provides rewards and advances companion-collection or Dreamlight Duty progress. A second feeding attempt can therefore appear to fail even when the interaction itself worked earlier.
If the turtle accepts Seaweed but no new reward appears, consider whether that same critter was successfully fed earlier in the day. Waiting for the next daily reset is more useful than repeatedly offering food during the same day.

Players have reported occasional cases in which a Sea Turtle accepts food but a duty does not register. This is community evidence of an intermittent tracking problem, not an official statement that every player will encounter a bug.

First confirm the basic conditions: the item was plain Seaweed, the turtle was fully out of its shell, and this was the first successful feeding for that critter that day. If all three are true and the counter remains unchanged, leave the area, check the duty again, and return during a later scheduled appearance. Avoid assuming that a second feeding will create another credit; the daily limit can prevent that.
How to get Seaweed before you return to Dazzle Beach
Seaweed is obtained by fishing in open water outside a visible fishing spot in the valley. Cast your line where there is no bubbling fishing circle. Once you have Seaweed in your inventory, travel back to Dazzle Beach and begin the approach sequence.
Do not confuse this gathering method with fishing inside a marked spot for a specific fish. The Seaweed step is simply:
- Stand at open water in the valley where no fishing spot is visible.
- Cast and complete the fishing action.
- Check your inventory for plain Seaweed.
- Return to Dazzle Beach with the item available for selection.
If the food menu does not show Seaweed, verify that you collected the plain resource rather than a prepared recipe or another seafood item. The favorite-food requirement is tied to the Seaweed item itself.
Sea Turtle schedule by color
The following rotation is the schedule reported for the five Sea Turtle variants. Times are shown as the game’s day-and-time windows; Sunday entries are split into two 12-hour periods.

For Sunday, the Black Turtle is listed for the full day, while Brown and Purple occupy the midnight-to-noon window and Classic and White occupy noon-to-midnight. On other days, the listed variants are available all day unless a newer game update changes the rotation.
Schedules are not a guarantee that a turtle will be standing in the first place you look. Use the current in-game appearance as the practical confirmation and verify the rotation again after an update. A missing color during an unlisted day or time is expected behavior, not evidence that Seaweed or the interaction is broken.

How the shell behavior works
Approach state
When you first walk toward a Sea Turtle, it can pull its head and limbs into the shell. This is the game’s approach-state animation. The animal is present, but the feeding interaction is temporarily unavailable.

Stop beside the shell and wait. The important trigger is the turtle emerging, not your character reaching a particular distance or repeatedly activating the interaction control.
Feedable state
After the head comes out, approach no farther than necessary and use the normal interact command. Seaweed should then be available in the food choice. Select it once and allow the feeding animation to finish before judging whether the action counted.
If the turtle hides again, back away slightly and repeat the calm approach: move near, stop, wait for the head, then interact. Chasing it around Dazzle Beach can repeatedly reset the same behavior.

A decision checklist for “my Sea Turtle won’t eat”
- Location: Are you on Dazzle Beach? Sea Turtles are found there.
- Schedule: Is the color you are seeking listed for the current day and time?
- Approach state: Is the turtle still fully inside its shell? If so, stop moving and wait.
- Food: Do you have plain Seaweed, rather than a different seafood item or a recipe?
- Interaction: Did you wait for the head to emerge before selecting the interact prompt?
- Daily status: Was this the first successful feeding for that turtle today?
- Duty tracking: If the food was accepted but the objective did not change, could the issue be the reported intermittent tracking problem?
Checking the list in this order separates the four situations that look similar on screen: a wrong item, an unready turtle, an unavailable scheduled variant, and a feeding that has already used its daily reward.
Why Seaweed can be accepted but still not advance your objective
There are two different outcomes to distinguish. A successful feeding is the interaction in which the turtle accepts the selected Seaweed. Daily reward and duty progress are separate tracking results that normally follow the first successful feeding of the day.
If you fed that critter earlier, another accepted interaction may not produce another reward or companion-duty increment. The absence of a new notification in that case is consistent with the daily limit, not proof that Seaweed was wrong.
If this was the first feeding and the objective still does not move, treat it as a possible tracking error. Confirm the turtle’s color and schedule, make sure the food was plain Seaweed, and check the duty after leaving and re-entering the area. Because the reported issue is community-based and not a confirmed universal bug, there is no single guaranteed reset procedure.

Feed the Sea Turtle once per day when you are working toward rewards, Dreamlight Duty progress, or companion collection. Repeating the action on the same day may produce no additional reward or credit.

Unlocking a turtle as a companion requires successful feedings over multiple days. The exact number of days can vary by critter, so one successful visit is not necessarily enough to unlock the Sea Turtle companion. Keep a simple record of the days on which the first feeding succeeded if you are trying to complete a collection objective.
The practical routine is therefore one scheduled visit per day: bring Seaweed, wait for the shell animation to end, feed once, and return on a later day. This avoids wasting time on repeated attempts that cannot advance the daily counter.

Pressing interact while the turtle is hidden
Symptom: The button appears to do nothing while the turtle is a closed shell.

Using any seafood instead of the favorite
Symptom: You have fish or another seafood item, but a favorite-food duty does not count.
Fix: Collect plain Seaweed and select that exact item. Liked-food categories do not replace a favorite-food requirement.
Searching on the wrong day
Symptom: The desired color is absent from Dazzle Beach.
Fix: Compare the current day and time with the color schedule. Wait for the next listed window rather than treating the absence as a failed spawn.
Feeding the same turtle repeatedly
Symptom: The turtle accepts another offering but no reward or duty progress appears.
Fix: Assume the first successful feeding of the day has already been used and try again after the daily reset.
Leaving immediately after selecting food
Symptom: You are unsure whether the feeding registered.

Where to look when a specific color is missing
Black Sea Turtle
The Black variant is listed for Sunday all day. If it is not present on another day, that absence matches the reported rotation. On Sunday, check Dazzle Beach during the full day before troubleshooting the food or shell interaction.
Brown Sea Turtle
Brown is listed from Sunday midnight to noon, plus all day Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Outside those windows, wait for the next listed period.
Classic Sea Turtle
Classic appears Sunday noon to midnight, plus all day Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Purple Sea Turtle
Purple appears Sunday midnight to noon, plus all day Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
White Sea Turtle
White appears Sunday noon to midnight, plus all day Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday.
When to stop troubleshooting
Once the turtle has emerged, accepted plain Seaweed, and you have confirmed that it was the first successful feeding of the day, the basic feeding problem is resolved even if a duty display is slow to change. Repeating the interaction is unlikely to create another daily reward.
If the turtle never appears, verify the schedule before changing food or approach tactics. If it appears but remains shelled, stop moving and wait. If it emerges but Seaweed is unavailable, return with the plain item. These checks address the normal causes without treating every missed notification as a game-wide bug.
