Why Won’t My Razer Headphones Connect? Model-Specific Troubleshooting Guide

Razer headset pairing steps depend on the exact model and connection type. Use this guide to troubleshoot Bluetooth, wireless USB receiver, wired, and intermittent connection problems.

If your Razer headphones will not connect, first identify the exact headset model and how you are trying to connect it: Bluetooth, its wireless USB receiver, or a cable. Razer headsets do not all use the same pairing controls or recovery steps, and a receiver or pairing utility for one model may not work with another.

Identify your headset and connection type

Check the name and model number on the headset, its label or box, or the model-specific Razer support page. Then decide which connection method you are troubleshooting:

  • Bluetooth: Pair through the computer, phone, console, or other host’s Bluetooth settings, if the headset supports Bluetooth.
  • Wireless USB receiver: Connect the receiver supplied for that headset, or a confirmed compatible replacement, to the host.
  • Wired: Connect the headset to a compatible USB or 3.5 mm audio port, depending on the model.

A headset may support more than one connection method, but that does not mean the methods share the same pairing procedure. Razer’s Headset Pairing Utility is limited to the models listed in its support information and requires the corresponding dongle.

If Bluetooth pairing fails

Use this procedure only if your exact headset is covered by Razer’s Bluetooth instructions. On supported models, Razer says to hold the power button for five seconds until the indicator blinks blue, then find and connect to the headset in the host device’s Bluetooth settings.

Some supported SmartSwitch headsets have separate Bluetooth and HyperSpeed Wireless modes. On those models, double-pressing the SmartSwitch button toggles between the two. If the headset is in HyperSpeed Wireless mode, switch it to Bluetooth before searching for it in the host’s Bluetooth list.

Bluetooth support is model-specific. For example, Razer lists the BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) as supporting 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2, with SmartSwitch for changing modes. Those specifications describe that model only; check your own model’s support page for its supported connections and controls.

If the wireless USB receiver will not pair

First check that the receiver is fully connected to the host, the headset is on, and the receiver belongs to the exact headset model. Then use Razer’s Headset Pairing Utility only if your model appears on its supported-device list, following the utility’s on-screen instructions. Razer cautions users to use the correct dongle for the headset.

  3. Start pairing in the model’s Razer utility and follow its instructions until pairing completes.
  4. Close Synapse and other applications as directed by the utility’s support instructions.

If the receiver is missing or may have failed

Confirm the headset model before looking for a replacement. Razer’s replacement-dongle guidance specifically covers the Nari, Nari Ultimate, and Nari Essential, and each model uses its own named pairing utility. It does not establish universal compatibility across Razer headset families or confirm current retailer stock. If you buy a replacement Razer Nari dongle, verify that it matches your Nari family model and that you can use the corresponding utility to pair it.

For the Nari, Razer’s support page says the original dongle has a storage location in the headset. Its support material also describes a firmware-updater procedure involving the receiver and charging cable for the RZ04-02680 Nari. Treat that as model-specific guidance, not a general fix for other headsets.

Check the cable, port, or adapter

USB connections

For a USB headset, connect directly to a USB port on the host instead of routing the connection through a hub, as Razer recommends. If the receiver uses USB-C but the host lacks a USB-C port, check the headset’s documentation for an approved or included adapter. Razer’s Kaira Pro for PS5 instructions describe a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter arrangement for that model; do not assume the same accessory applies to every headset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3.5 mm connections

If your headset has a 3.5 mm plug, connect it directly to a compatible audio port. This advice applies only to models with an analog connection. A cable connection can provide wired audio, but it does not restore wireless pairing.

If the connection keeps dropping

  • Make sure the USB receiver or cable plug is fully seated.
  • For a USB headset, test a direct host USB port rather than a hub.
  • For a wireless headset, test it within its maximum operating range.
  • Check the model-specific Razer support guidance if the symptom is intermittent audio, no sound, or static, buzzing, or crackling.

These checks address common connection conditions, but no single one is a guaranteed fix for every interruption. Razer’s support material points to separate troubleshooting guidance for those audio symptoms.

Use model-specific support for the final check

Razer’s support pages for the Nari replacement dongle, Nari pairing utility, BlackShark V2 Pro (2023), and Nari were updated on August 4, July 14, July 20, and July 30, 2026, respectively. Other cited headset guidance was accessed on October 4, 2026. Because procedures and supported models can change, confirm the exact instructions on the support page for your headset before downloading a utility, applying firmware steps, or obtaining a replacement receiver.
