Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer said he retired from playing because his individual level had fallen below his own expectations, and he felt new players should take his place. He also described a high-pressure final stretch and said he accepted HEROIC’s head-coach opportunity early because he saw potential in the team and liked the people he had spoken with.
Why Snappi felt it was time to stop playing
In an interview published by HLTV on 2 October 2026, Snappi looked back on the final period of a playing career HLTV describes as spanning almost 20 years across CS 1.6, CS:GO and CS2. He said his individual level had reached a point where it was better to make room for new players.

“I think my individual level has gotten to the point where it’s better to let some new faces come in.”

Snappi recalled that the first four or five CS2 events went well, but that the period afterward was rough. In his assessment, his individual output had dropped below what he expected of himself, and that may also have affected his in-game calling. HLTV’s interview does not provide event-by-event statistics, so this is Snappi’s retrospective explanation rather than an independently measured performance trend.

Pressure in his final months
Snappi said the last six months of his playing career felt unusually pressurized. He believed he had to perform or retire, and said that prospect created a different kind of pressure from what he had experienced earlier in his career.
“The last six months I think I had a lot more pressure, because I knew I was playing… either I perform now or it is retirement, and that added a different level of pressure than I think I ever had in my career.”

How the decision to leave unfolded
Snappi said he had raised the possibility with Xizt that the team needed more firepower in his position. He characterized the outcome as mutual, while adding that he saw it as more of an organization-level decision than one driven by the players. He said he considered the decision right.

“In the end it was kind of mutual, of course. I think it was more of an org decision that came down, I don’t think it was players involved in it at all, but I thought it was the right decision.”
That distinction matters: Snappi said he accepted the outcome and had himself identified the need for greater firepower, but his account was that the final decision came from the organization. HLTV’s interview reports his perspective; it does not provide a separate account from HEROIC or establish the organization’s decision-making process.

Why he accepted HEROIC’s coaching job
Snappi said he had originally planned to wait until the transfer window after the Major. He changed course when the HEROIC opportunity came up, citing the team’s youth and potential and positive conversations with people in the organization.

He enters the role expecting to learn. Snappi said he would need to develop his understanding of the psychological side of coaching, potentially through books or courses, and stressed that he planned to approach the job humbly. He did not name particular books, courses or a formal coaching curriculum.
“I have to come in with a humble mindset.”
What his move means—and what remains unknown
Snappi’s explanation links the end of his playing career to his own assessment of his form, the pressure he felt and a perceived need for more firepower in his position. His move to HEROIC offers a different role in Counter-Strike, but his interview presents it as a learning process rather than a claim that he already has a complete coaching method.
The available account establishes his reasons and recollections, not a statistical explanation of his performance or an independently verified account of HEROIC’s decision. HLTV’s interview is the source for his comments and the appointment context.
