Zeenat Aman’s account of her marriage to actor Mazhar Khan, as recounted in a 1999 interview with Simi Garewal and revisited in a 2026 Hindustan Times report, describes early doubts, a reported affair, years of caregiving, separation and painful allegations after his death. The claims about infidelity and Khan’s family are Aman’s reported statements, not independently established findings.
What Aman said about the early years of the marriage
Hindustan Times’ October 2, 2026 report says Aman discussed the marriage in a 1999 interview with Simi Garewal. She reportedly said that doubts arose within the first year. In the wording reproduced by Hindustan Times, Aman said: “The first year after marriage, I realised I had made a mistake but since I had made the decision and done it against everybody’s will, I decided to live by it and make it work.”

The same report says Aman recalled learning about a woman Khan was seeing while she was pregnant with their first child, after reading an article about the relationship. This is Aman’s reported recollection; the coverage does not independently verify an affair. A 2021 Hindustan Times retrospective also identifies a 1999 Garewal interview and says Aman spoke about wanting motherhood and the timing of her marriage, but it does not independently establish the personal allegations in the later report.

How Aman described caring for Khan during his illness
According to the 2026 report, Aman described five years of trying to help Khan recover. Her account included trips to hospitals in Mumbai, learning to give injections and change dressings, seeking treatment overseas and managing an external medical bag for 18 months. These are details attributed to Aman; the report does not provide independent medical records or a separate account of Khan’s treatment.

Hindustan Times also reports that Aman said Khan was taking seven painkillers a day. That figure is part of her reported account, not a medical finding independently verified in the coverage.
Why Aman said she left, and when Khan died
The 2026 article says Aman described leaving the marriage after Khan continued taking painkillers and prescription drugs despite pleas from her and their children. It reports that the couple had been married for 12 years and that Khan died of kidney failure in 1998, after the separation. The account does not establish that his medication or the caregiving caused his kidney failure.

Hindustan Times reports that Aman alleged Khan’s mother and sister took the money he had left and that she was not allowed to pay her last respects. These are serious claims attributed to Aman; the coverage reviewed does not supply financial records, independent corroboration or a response from the family. They should therefore be understood as allegations, not established facts.
