If Hindi or other Indic-script text looks missing, substituted or badly shaped in a ScreenshotAPI capture, first check that the request is not blocking font files. ScreenshotAPI documents block_font=true as blocking them and forcing system fonts; use false or omit the parameter where its documented default applies. Then check the page’s CSS and font coverage, whether font requests finish before capture, and whether the exact endpoint supports the render controls you need. The right fix depends on the page, font, script and API version—there is no universal setting.
1. Check whether ScreenshotAPI is blocking fonts
Start with the request parameters for the exact capture that looks wrong. ScreenshotAPI’s resource-control documentation says block_font=true prevents font files from loading and forces system default fonts. It documents false as allowing custom web fonts and lists it as the default.

- If your request explicitly sets
block_font=true, remove that setting or set it tofalsewhen custom web fonts are needed. - If the parameter is omitted, the documented default is
false; check the actual request and endpoint rather than assuming a different ScreenshotAPI-branded service uses the same controls.
Blocking fonts can explain why a capture uses a fallback face, but it does not establish that every remaining problem has the same cause.
2. Confirm the page applies a font that covers the text
Inspect the affected element in the live page’s computed styles. Verify the declared font family, weight, style and fallback sequence, and check that the rule actually applies to the text. Then confirm that the selected font contains the glyphs needed for the exact language and script.

Google Fonts’ setup guidance explains how to link a stylesheet and select a family in CSS; it also covers subset parameters and font-display. See its getting-started guide. A family name in a stylesheet alone does not prove the intended font face loaded or contains the necessary characters.
Keep Indic-script shaping and layout in view as well as glyph availability. Government of India localisation guidance has a section titled “12.2 CSS rendering Issues in Indic Script.” That makes CSS and font compatibility reasonable areas to investigate when text looks broken; it does not identify a single cause for any particular page.

3. Check whether the stylesheet and font files load before capture
Google Fonts serves a stylesheet tailored to the requesting browser; the browser then downloads the appropriate font file, as described in its technical considerations. Inspect browser network activity for both the stylesheet and font-file requests. Look for failed requests, blocked hosts, or a request that remains incomplete when the screenshot is taken.
Font loading can also affect what a browser displays during the wait. Google’s documentation describes blank text while fonts load in Chrome and Safari, and a flash of unstyled text in Firefox. Those are browser-specific documented behaviors, not a guarantee of what every current browser or capture environment will show.

4. Make sure capture happens after the page is ready
If JavaScript applies styles, text appears asynchronously, or the font loads late, the capture may occur before the page reaches its final state. ScreenshotAPI describes support for pages using JavaScript, lazy loading or delays in its render documentation. Check that documentation for the precise endpoint and version in your request before choosing a render option; parameter names and availability should not be assumed across similarly named products.
- Reproduce the capture and record the exact endpoint, version and relevant request parameters.
- Check whether the affected text and font have finished loading in a normal browser session.
- Use an appropriate documented render option to wait for the page’s required state, such as a selector or delay, if that option is available for the endpoint you call.
- Capture again and compare the result with the browser rendering at the same page state.
5. Use injected CSS as a controlled test
ScreenshotAPI documents runtime CSS and JavaScript injection before rendering or capture. Its injection documentation explains the feature, and its help page demonstrates importing a Google Font and assigning it with CSS. You can use a test rule to see whether changing the font family or targeting the affected element changes the result.

6. Isolate the problem if the first checks do not explain it
Create a minimal test page containing the same text, font declaration and relevant CSS, then compare its normal browser rendering with the API capture. Keep the font source and capture parameters constant while changing one variable at a time: blocking, CSS family or weight, font request completion, and capture timing. This helps distinguish a page-specific style conflict from a loading or capture-state issue; it is a recommended diagnostic method, not a reported test result.
