For an always-on YouTube Live stream, choose where the video encoder will run: on a computer using software such as OBS, on dedicated encoder hardware, or in the cloud. Developers can also use YouTube’s Live Streaming API to automate broadcast scheduling. For a typical creator who wants prerecorded videos to keep playing without leaving a computer on, a cloud service is the most direct fit.
Choose an always-on streaming approach
All four approaches send an encoded live feed to YouTube. The practical difference is who operates the encoder and where it runs. YouTube describes OBS as free, open-source streaming software and lists Gyre as an example of a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. StreamNeo is another cloud option: it plays uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud.

| Approach | Best fit | What the documented option means |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | Creators who want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without keeping a local computer running | One always-on stream per slot; videos can be looped or organized into playlists. You can upload, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. See StreamNeo for details. |
| Computer software encoder, such as OBS | Creators willing to run and manage the playback and encoder on a computer | YouTube identifies OBS as free, open-source software. The computer and its network connection are part of the local workflow. YouTube’s encoder guide does not specify a playlist-loop recipe or minimum computer specification. |
| Dedicated encoder hardware | Creators whose workflow uses a standalone broadcast encoder | YouTube recognizes standalone hardware encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production-value events, while noting expensive equipment is not required to get started. The source does not prescribe a device for prerecorded looping. |
| Cloud service, such as Gyre | Creators who want a cloud-hosted continuous stream rather than a dedicated PC | YouTube lists Gyre for cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. The listing does not establish current pricing, uptime, or partner terms. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Developers building scheduled or multi-broadcast workflows | The API separates the incoming live stream from viewer-facing broadcasts and documents a pattern for running a continuous feed while creating a separate broadcast. |
There is no source-backed comparative price or reliability measurement for these approaches, so the table is a workflow guide, not a performance ranking. StreamNeo is listed first because it is the publisher’s cloud service for this specific YouTube use case.

Set up a computer-based encoder workflow
YouTube’s encoder route is the relevant option when prerecorded media is played through streaming software. The playback source and repeat behavior depend on the software and operating system; YouTube’s setup guide does not prescribe a specific playlist-loop configuration.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Check channel eligibility. Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of the planned start.
- Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or select an existing one, then open its stream settings. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Configure your playback and encoder software. In OBS or your chosen encoder, add the prerecorded video or playlist source and configure how it repeats. Set the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. The exact media-source controls vary by software; verify that the intended video and audio are playing before relying on a continuous run.
- Preview before going live. Check the preview in YouTube Studio, then start sending the encoder feed. Monitor the stream’s audio and video quality rather than assuming that a successful connection means the content is playing correctly.
- Choose start and stop behavior. YouTube’s stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls, and settings can be reused. These are workflow controls; they do not guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
A computer-based setup makes the local machine, the playback software, and the internet connection part of the ongoing operation. YouTube does not state a minimum PC specification for this use case. Choose a computer based on the encoder and media workload you actually run; expensive equipment is not a prerequisite to start.
Protect the stream key and monitor the feed
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Enter the key only in the encoder or service that should send your feed; do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder or service using it.

During operation, check that the live preview reflects the intended video and sound. A stream can remain connected while the wrong source, a frozen image, or silent audio is being sent. For a cloud workflow, confirm the service is using the intended YouTube stream and key before starting.
Plan archives and viewer controls for a continuous stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that an all-day or longer continuous run will produce one intact archive; plan how you will manage recordings and check YouTube’s current behavior for the stream you are running. Archiving is separate from DVR: YouTube’s DVR setting lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue where they paused during a live stream.

If you need distinct viewer-facing programs while keeping one feed running, the YouTube Live Streaming API documents a developer workflow in which a 24/7 broadcast remains live while a separate interview broadcast is created and later completed from the same incoming stream. This requires API integration; it is not a no-code playlist setting.
Copyright permission and monetization are different checks
Only stream prerecorded material you own or are authorized to use. YouTube points creators to applicable copyright exceptions, permission from rights holders, Creative Commons terms, YouTube’s Audio Library, or Creator Music as possible routes. Copyright rules vary by jurisdiction, and YouTube cautions that none of these routes guarantees avoiding claims or strikes.

Permission does not by itself make a stream eligible for monetization. In its July 15, 2025 policy update, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and said repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under its existing policy. Reused content may also be ineligible even when the creator has permission if it lacks meaningful original commentary, substantive modification, or viewer value. YouTube applies these monetization policies to live streams as well as other video formats.

Choose based on who will operate the stream
- Choose local software if you want direct control over playback and are prepared to keep and monitor the computer and connection running.
- Choose dedicated hardware if your existing broadcast workflow depends on a standalone encoder; YouTube does not require expensive hardware to begin.
- Choose a cloud service if you want prerecorded video to run without a dedicated local PC. Compare each service’s current features and terms directly; YouTube’s listing alone does not verify a provider’s pricing or reliability.
- Use the API if you are building a custom system that needs to manage multiple broadcasts against a continuous incoming feed.
None of these choices, by itself, establishes that a 24/7 stream will increase watch time, audience growth, or revenue.
