A Screenshot.rocks image can look outdated for several different reasons: you may be looking at an old saved screenshot, the online capture may be seeing a different version of the site than your browser, or the website may be serving old page resources. Screenshot.rocks’ online tool loads a public URL as a first-time visitor; its extension captures the visible portion of a tab already open in your browser. The product’s reviewed help pages do not say whether it caches generated screenshots, so that possibility cannot be confirmed from its documentation.
First check whether the image is actually a new capture
A screenshot is a static image. It does not update when the webpage changes. If the old picture is a file you saved earlier, an image copied into documentation, or an existing embed, create a new screenshot and replace the old image wherever it is displayed.

If you have just generated a fresh capture and it still shows old content, continue with the checks below. If the new capture looks right but an embed or preview does not, refresh or replace that downstream image: the capture and the place displaying a copied image are separate layers.
Online capture and extension capture see different contexts
Online generator: a server-side first visit
Screenshot.rocks says its online generator loads the URL on its server as a first-time visitor and captures the first screen. That view may differ from your usual browser because of redirects, consent prompts, localization, personalization, login state, or other visitor-specific conditions. These are possible differences to check, not documented guarantees about how the service handles each one. See the Screenshot.rocks website screenshot generator help for its stated capture behavior.

The online tool is not intended to see content that requires your login, reach a local address such as localhost, or capture a site that blocks automated browsers. Its FAQ also identifies a mistyped address, a page taking too long to load, and automated-browser blocking as common reasons a capture may fail.
Extension: the visible part of your open tab
The Screenshot.rocks extension captures the visible portion of the current tab in your own browser. Because that tab can already have a login or a particular interface state, the extension is the more suitable option for those cases. Screenshot.rocks recommends capturing in a browser and importing the image for local or staging sites and for a specific state, such as an open menu. Its help also directs users to browser-native workflows for full-page captures. Details are on the Screenshot.rocks extension help page.

Diagnose where the old content enters the path
- Identify the image and capture method. Establish whether you are viewing an old export or embed, a fresh online-generator result, or a capture from the extension. A saved image needs replacing; it cannot reflect a later site update on its own.
- Compare the same public URL in both contexts. Open it in an ordinary browser and request it from the online generator. Note redirects, consent screens, localization, personalization, login requirements, and any other differences between a first-time remote visit and your existing tab.
- If only the online result is old, inspect the responses delivered to that capture context. Compare the page HTML and the image, script, and stylesheet resources it uses. The remote browser can only render what its request path receives; check whether the page or its assets are coming from an old response.
- If your browser and the online result are both old, investigate the site’s deployment and delivery path. Check the live origin and any cache configuration you operate. If evidence points to an intermediary cache, use that provider’s documented invalidation procedure rather than assuming the screenshot service is responsible.
- If the page is private, local, staging, or state-specific, capture from the browser that has the required access and state. Use the extension for the visible current tab where appropriate, or capture in your browser and import the image.
- If a fresh result is correct but a displayed image is not, replace or refresh the displayed copy. Check the app, documentation, embed, or other destination separately from the capture itself.
How website caches can make a fresh capture look old
A newly started browser capture does not prove that every resource came directly from the site’s origin. HTTP caching rules govern when browsers and shared caches, including proxies and CDNs, can reuse a response or must revalidate it. See MDN’s Cache-Control reference.
A service worker is another possible source: a site can use one to intercept requests and respond with resources from a site-controlled cache. MDN explains this behavior in Using Service Workers. These mechanisms are reasons to inspect the site’s response path when a new capture is stale; they do not establish that a particular site has a cache problem.

Does Screenshot.rocks cache generated screenshots?
Screenshot.rocks’ reviewed official help pages describe online capture and the extension, but do not state a generated-screenshot cache lifetime, cache key, or force-fresh or invalidation control. Without that documentation or a reproducible test, it is not possible to say that Screenshot.rocks reused an earlier generated image. First establish that the image is a fresh result, then compare what the target page delivers to the relevant capture context.

For a fresh capture through an API, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns an image. Its cookie/consent-banner handling and removal of more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can help produce a cleaner first-visit result; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF tools for AI agents.

Common problems and what to try
| What you see | Likely place to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| An old image in documentation or an embed, despite a site update | The stored or displayed image | Generate a replacement and update the image at its destination. |
| The online capture differs from the page in your usual browser | Capture context, access, or visitor-specific behavior | Compare the public first-visit view with your tab; use the extension or browser capture/import for login-only, local, staging, or specific-state content. |
| The online capture fails or does not finish | Address, load time, or automated-browser restrictions | Check the URL and try again. If the site blocks automated browsers or needs browser access you have, capture it yourself. |
| A fresh online capture is old while the page in your browser is current | Responses reaching the remote capture context | Compare HTML and asset responses, then investigate the site’s HTTP or service-worker cache behavior. |
| Both the browser and capture show old content | Deployment or site delivery path | Check the live origin and any site or CDN cache you control; follow the provider’s documented invalidation process if the evidence points there. |
| The generated image is current but its preview is old | The downstream app, embed, or documentation | Refresh or replace the copied image separately. |
