First make the website itself render in dark mode, then capture it with Screenshot.Rocks. Its documented capture tools do not force a target page into dark mode: use the site’s theme control, or a browser or operating-system dark preference if the site supports it. A dark browser frame is only decoration around the screenshot, not a change to the page’s colors.
1. Make the website render in dark mode
Use the website’s own Dark or Night theme control when available. If it has no control, set your browser or operating system to prefer dark mode, then reload the page and check its content. Websites can respond to the prefers-color-scheme CSS media feature, which detects whether a user has requested light or dark color themes.

Check the page itself before capturing: the browser’s chrome or a dark frame does not prove the website content is dark. If the site neither offers a dark theme nor responds to the preference, Screenshot.Rocks’ documented workflow does not establish a way to force it into dark mode.
2. Choose the right Screenshot.Rocks capture route
Public page, first screen
- Open the Screenshot.Rocks website screenshot tool.
- Enter the page URL under “Or capture a website.” The tool says the
https://prefix can be omitted. - Select Mobile if you want a phone layout; otherwise use the desktop option.
- Press Capture, then choose a frame or background if desired and export.
- Inspect the exported image to confirm the website content is dark and the intended page area is shown.
This server-side URL route is intended for the first screen of an accessible public page. It does not see behind a login, reach localhost, or capture pages that block automated browsers. The service lists desktop dimensions of 1440 × 800 at 2× density (2880 × 1600 px) and mobile dimensions of 375 × 812 at 3× density (1125 × 2436 px); these are its stated specifications, not independent measurements.

Logged-in page or an already-open menu or form
- Open the page in your browser, sign in if needed, and set the page to dark mode.
- Open the specific menu, form, or other visible state you want included.
- Use the Screenshot.Rocks browser extension button to capture the visible part of the current tab.
- In the editor, choose a frame or background if wanted, then export and inspect the result.
The extension captures what is visible in the tab, not the whole scrolling page. Its documentation says the captured image is sent to Screenshot.Rocks to open in the editor and says the image is not stored. The documentation describes Chrome and Edge requesting the activeTab permission.
Full scrolling page
Neither the public URL capture nor the extension captures a whole scrolling page, according to their documentation. Use your browser’s built-in full-page capture, then import that image into the Screenshot.Rocks editor. Check the whole exported image for dark content and the correct extent.

3. Keep the frame separate from the page theme
A browser frame or background changes the presentation around a screenshot; it does not change the website’s color scheme. If you need a dark-looking website, verify that the actual page content is dark before export. Screenshot.Rocks explains frame styling in its browser-frame guide.

5. Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The exported page is still light: the target page may not offer dark mode or respond to the browser or operating-system preference. Try the site’s own theme control, set the preference before reloading, and verify the content before capturing.
- The frame is dark but the page is not: remove or change the frame if needed; it is separate from the page’s color scheme.
- The URL capture misses a logged-in state: the public URL route cannot see behind a login. Open the page in your own browser and use the extension for the visible tab.
- The capture omits content below the fold: the public URL route is first-screen only and the extension captures the visible area. Use a browser full-page capture and import it.
- The public capture does not load: the service documents limits for local addresses such as
localhostand pages that block automated browsers. Use a browser capture for pages available in your own tab.
Privacy notes
Screenshot.Rocks says public captures are sent back to the browser and not stored on its server; its homepage says images are processed in the browser and never stored on its servers. Those are the service’s statements, not an independent privacy audit. The extension page also says the captured image is not stored.
