As of October 4, 2026, iOS 27 has been released: Apple lists iOS 27.0.1, dated September 28, as the latest version for iPhone 11 and later. If it is not appearing, first check your exact iPhone model and installed iOS version, then open Settings > General > Software Update. Apple shows only updates compatible with that iPhone; storage, connection, update-server access, or a stalled download can also get in the way.
First, check whether your iPhone supports iOS 27
Open Settings > General > About and note the model name and software version. Compare the exact model with Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list. Apple lists iPhone 11 and later, including the named models and variants, and iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). If your model is not on Apple’s list, iOS 27 will not be offered for it; using a computer does not change compatibility.

Do not rely on a general rule such as “new enough.” Confirm the model shown in About against Apple’s current list, since similarly named models can differ.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck the installed version and available update
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Check the installed version and whether an update is offered.
- If the iPhone is on an earlier compatible version, install the update shown there first, then check Software Update again. Apple says an iPhone displays only updates compatible with it.
Apple lists iOS 27 as released September 14, 2026, and iOS 27.0.1 as released September 28, 2026. Its security release list identifies 27.0.1 as the latest version for iPhone 11 and later. Release information is current as of October 4, 2026.

If your compatible iPhone still cannot update wirelessly
Apple groups wireless-update problems into several categories. Check the one that matches what you see rather than assuming the update is being withheld:
- Not enough storage: Free available space, then check Software Update again.
- Slow download: Allow more time for the download to finish.
- Connection or update-server error: Confirm the iPhone has internet access. Alerts such as “Unable to Check for Update” or “Unable to Download” indicate a check or download problem, not by themselves a compatibility verdict.
- Download will not complete or appears damaged: Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If the iOS update is listed, select it and tap Delete Update. Return to Software Update and download it again.
Apple says updating requires a compatible device, a power source, an internet connection, and enough available storage. See Apple’s troubleshooting steps for an iPhone or iPad that won’t update.

Try updating with a Mac or PC
If Software Update remains unavailable or fails, Apple documents updating through a computer. This is an alternate route for a wireless-update problem, not a way to install iOS 27 on an unsupported model.

- Connect it to a Mac running macOS 10.15 or later and use Finder, or use iTunes on an older macOS version or Windows PC.
- In Finder or iTunes, select the iPhone and check for an update, then follow the displayed instructions. Apple’s iPhone update guide covers the update process.
If the computer does not recognize the iPhone, or the Apple logo remains on screen for several minutes without a progress bar, Apple directs users to its recovery-mode instructions.

What to note if it still does not appear
The specific cause depends on the phone and the message it displays. To narrow it down, note the model name, current iOS version, available storage, whether the iPhone has internet access, and the exact alert or error text. Apple’s guidance documents compatibility and common update failures; it does not establish that a particular compatible iPhone is missing iOS 27 because of a staged rollout.
