Why Is There a Weird App Listed on the “Always Allowed” Screen in Screen Time on iPhone?

A random-looking item in Screen Time’s Always Allowed list may be a saved Home Screen webpage shortcut. Here’s how to check and what to do if nothing matches.

A random-looking entry in Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed may be a webpage shortcut saved to your iPhone’s Home Screen, rather than a conventional installed app. Compare its name and icon with shortcuts on your Home Screen. That explanation has been reported for this symptom, but Apple does not say that every unfamiliar entry comes from a webpage shortcut.

What “Always Allowed” means

Always Allowed is a Screen Time setting for choosing apps that remain available regardless of Screen Time schedules or Time Allowances. The screen can also list contacts you can communicate with. Apple describes the feature in its iPhone guide to Screen Time schedules and Time Allowances.

The list shows what is allowed under Screen Time; by itself, it does not explain how an unfamiliar item got there.

Why an unfamiliar entry may appear

A troubleshooting article from Solve Your Tech reports that a random-looking string of letters and numbers in Always Allowed was a webpage link saved to the Home Screen. A saved webpage shortcut can have a name or icon that does not look like a familiar app. This is a reported explanation for one symptom, not an Apple-confirmed diagnosis for every odd listing.

Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

How to check and remove it

  1. Inspect the entry. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed. Note the exact name and icon of the unfamiliar item.
  2. Look for a matching Home Screen shortcut. Check Home Screen pages and folders for a webpage link with the same name or icon.
  3. Delete a matching shortcut if you no longer want it. Solve Your Tech reports that deleting the Home Screen webpage link made its corresponding Always Allowed entry disappear. This outcome is not established for unrelated entries.
  4. Remove a recognized app from the allowed list. In Always Allowed, tap Edit and remove the app. This changes its allowed status; Apple’s instructions do not say that it uninstalls the app.

Apple’s menu labels can vary by iOS version. Its current guide describes the latest Schedules and Time Allowances features as requiring iOS 27 or later; that does not mean every existing Screen Time control is limited to iOS 27.

If you cannot identify the entry

If no Home Screen shortcut or recognizable app matches, the available Apple guidance does not identify the origin of every unexplained listing. An odd name alone is not evidence that the iPhone is compromised, nor do the cited sources establish it as malware, a system app, or a known bug.

If Screen Time is managed by a parent through Family Sharing, that management arrangement is relevant context, but it does not by itself explain what the unfamiliar item is. Apple’s child Screen Time guidance, published September 22, 2026, says updated parental controls require supported software versions across the Family Sharing group; families unable to update all devices can continue using the previous Screen Time experience. See Apple’s guide to managing a child’s iPhone or iPad with Screen Time.

Could another Apple device explain it?

Apple says Share Across Devices can sync Screen Time settings and reports across signed-in iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. That is worth knowing if you use Screen Time on several devices, but Apple’s guidance does not say that syncing creates an unfamiliar Always Allowed entry. Read Apple’s overview of getting started with Screen Time.
