Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, enable Set time automatically, confirm the time-zone setting, and use Sync now if needed.
First identify what is showing the wrong time
Compare the taskbar clock with a trusted current-time reference for your location. Windows keeps the system time and time-zone choice as separate settings, so a wrong zone can make the displayed local time incorrect even when the system time is synchronized. A difference of about a whole hour is a useful reason to check the time zone and daylight-saving setting first, though it is not proof of a particular cause.

If the discrepancy is only on the Secure Lock screen, it may be a display refresh delay rather than an incorrect system clock. Microsoft says that screen refreshes every 30 seconds and can therefore appear up to 30 seconds behind a minute change. The system time remains accurate, and Microsoft says no workaround is needed. The ordinary lock screen reached with Windows key + L updates dynamically near the next minute boundary. Microsoft explains the Secure Lock screen behavior.
Turn on automatic time and synchronize
- Open Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
- Turn on Set time automatically.
- If the clock is still wrong, select Sync now under Additional settings. Microsoft includes this step in its Windows Update troubleshooting guidance.
Microsoft’s Windows date and time settings guide also documents manual entry: turn off Set time automatically, select Change, and enter the date and time. Use manual entry when automatic setting is unavailable or unsuitable; it does not correct an incorrectly selected time zone.

Check the time zone and daylight-saving setting
On the same Date & time page, turn on Set time zone automatically if Windows can determine the device’s location correctly. Otherwise, turn it off and select the appropriate time zone from the menu. With automatic time-zone selection off, check Adjust for daylight saving time automatically against the rule for your location. Microsoft says Windows handles daylight-saving time automatically when automatic time-zone selection is on.

Consider whether local time-zone rules have changed
Governments can change time-zone or daylight-saving rules. Windows uses time-zone configuration data to calculate local time, so outdated rules can affect the clock and applications that depend on dates and times. Microsoft recommends applying time-zone updates through Windows Update or its time-zone update download rather than editing the registry manually.
