A cloud looping service may add a processing or forwarding hop, but that alone does not explain how late viewers see your stream. YouTube also adds playback buffer, and network conditions can introduce further delay. Measure the stream at more than one point before blaming the cloud service.
What “delayed” can mean
YouTube defines live-stream latency as the time from capture to display for viewers. In a looping workflow, there may be several points to compare: the original video, the cloud service’s preview or status (if it offers one), YouTube’s live preview, and playback on a viewer’s device. A delay at one point does not by itself identify which part of the path caused it.

Latency is also different from buffering. YouTube holds some live data before playback so it can absorb changes in internet speed. Reducing latency reduces that read-ahead buffer; it can make playback more prone to interruptions when a viewer’s connection varies.
Choose the YouTube latency mode that fits a loop
YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room provides the broadcast latency setting. For a persistent, prerecorded loop with no live conversation, Normal is the sensible starting point: it prioritizes playback stability, supports all resolutions and live features, and has the lowest viewer buffering of YouTube’s three modes.

| YouTube mode | Best fit | What YouTube documents |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | A continuous loop without time-sensitive interaction | Lowest viewer buffering; supports all resolutions and live features. |
| Low | Limited viewer interaction | YouTube says most viewers experience less than 10 seconds of latency. It does not support 4K and uses less buffer than Normal. |
| Ultra-low | Conversation or real-time engagement | YouTube says most viewers experience less than five seconds of latency. It may increase buffering and does not support 4K. |
The “most viewers” figures are YouTube’s documented expectations, not guarantees for every viewer. A shorter delay is not automatically better for a stream that does not need interaction; the smaller buffer can trade steadier playback for lower latency.
Check the ingest protocol and network
RTMP and RTMPS
YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS with Normal, Low, and Ultra-low latency. RTMPS encrypts stream data in transit to YouTube. These protocols are suitable options for workflows where those latency modes are needed.

- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
HLS and DASH
HLS and DASH are segment-based and typically have greater latency. They can support other workflow needs, including codec and high-resolution features, but YouTube’s protocol comparison does not recommend them for Ultra-low latency. Choose based on the complete workflow rather than the protocol name alone.

YouTube notes that network congestion and other factors can delay a stream even when the connection sustains its average bitrate. In Live Control Room, check stream health and test with representative video and audio before making a change. Match the stream quality to the available connection. If the source computer is on Wi-Fi, temporarily testing over Ethernet can help reveal whether wireless instability is involved; it cannot remove YouTube’s playback buffer or an upstream cloud hop.

For encoder context, YouTube’s current Help guidance recommends H.264 at 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those are bitrate recommendations, not latency targets or promises that a particular setting will reduce delay.
Measure where the delay enters
- Use a visible clock at the source. Put a stopwatch or clock in the source video, or use a repeatable event with a clear time marker. View the stream on a separate device, not only in the same browser or control-room preview.
- Compare available checkpoints. Note when the marker appears in the source, the cloud service’s preview or status if available, YouTube’s live preview, and the separate viewer’s playback. Keep the content and route the same where possible.
- Record the broadcast mode and protocol. Note whether YouTube is set to Normal, Low, or Ultra-low, and whether the workflow uses RTMP/RTMPS or HLS/DASH.
- Change one setting at a time. Repeat the same comparison after a change. If lower latency reduces the measured delay but increases buffering, that is the mode’s stability trade-off—not evidence that the source itself became slower.
- Compare direct and cloud paths only if available. A comparison using equivalent content and measurement can help identify an added cloud hop. It still cannot establish a universal delay for a provider or for every viewer.
Why a cloud service may not be the only cause
A cloud service can process or forward the stream before it reaches YouTube, but YouTube and the viewer’s playback path also affect the result. YouTube specifically warns that network congestion and other factors may delay a stream. A viewer’s location, connection, and playback conditions can therefore produce a different experience from the control-room preview.

Some providers publish figures about their own service. For example, Restream’s Help Center states that its additional delay is under two seconds and says platform-side delay remains even when a creator does not use Restream. That is Restream’s own claim about its service, dated July 15, 2024—not an independent measurement and not a figure that can be applied to other cloud looping services.

- Every viewer sees a similar delay: Check the YouTube latency mode and ingest protocol, then compare YouTube’s preview with the source marker. Normal is appropriate for a loop that does not need interaction.
- Some viewers are much later or buffer more: The difference may be in viewer playback or network conditions. Lower-latency modes use less buffer and can make variable connections less resilient.
- The delay changes from test to test: Check stream health and connection stability, then repeat the same test with a consistent source, viewer device, and route. If the source computer uses Wi-Fi, an Ethernet comparison may help isolate that part of the path.
- The stream is steady but not near real time: That may be expected for a persistent loop. Unless viewers need to react live, prioritize stable playback over the shortest possible latency.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube cloud looping service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the loop running without a computer, OBS, or home connection staying on. For persistent loops, StreamNeo’s guidance recommends YouTube’s Normal latency mode; the cloud service does not remove YouTube’s own playback buffer.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; billing options run from a day to a year, and you can cancel any time.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
