The right filter and suction-test location vary by model, so start with the model number on your machine and use the matching BISSELL guide.
Start with the dirty-water tank
Empty it when full
If suction drops while cleaning, stop and empty the recovery tank. BISSELL says a full tank can change the machine’s sound and cause suction loss; its Cordless troubleshooting page states, “Suction stops if dirty water tank is full.” Do not fill past the machine’s marked FULL or MAX line. Reseat the tank and lid
Turn off and unplug the cleaner before inspecting it. Remove and reinstall the dirty-water tank and lid as directed in your model’s guide; check that the tank is fully seated and latched, with no gap. On applicable models, debris underneath the tank can prevent it from seating properly. Look for cracks, holes, deformation, or leaks. Make sure the float moves freely
Inspect the float in the dirty-water tank and clear debris that prevents it from moving. A stuck float can interfere with collection and suction.

Inspect the seal only as your model’s guide directs
For the classic Little Green models covered by BISSELL’s guide, check the black duckbill gasket at the bottom of the tank. Confirm it is present and undamaged, and that its flat end opens. This gasket arrangement is not established as universal across Little Green variants. BISSELL classic Little Green suction guide.
Clean a filter if your model has one
BISSELL’s HydroSteam Pet suction guidance calls for cleaning its red filter and checking suction at that location. Do not assume every Little Green has this filter or uses the same test point. BISSELL HydroSteam Pet no/low-suction guide.

Inspect the hose and tool
Look for hose damage or a blockage
Check the hose for visible damage and possible debris. BISSELL notes in its Mini maintenance guidance that “Suction may be lowered due to debris stuck in hose.” Its Mini page describes one clearing method: with the dirty tank empty and the clean tank filled, remove the tool, turn on the machine, submerge the hose end in a container of water, and let water draw through into the recovery tank. Make sure the tool clicks fully into place. Inspect it for obstruction, cracks, or deformation. When cleaning with a Cordless model, BISSELL instructs users to tilt the nozzle forward and press it against the surface so the suction nozzle contacts it. Test suction at the point specified for your model
After the tank, float, hose, and tool checks, use only the suction test in the matching BISSELL guide. The classic guide directs owners to remove the dirty-water tank and check for suction at the motor duct, then test at the hose end and tool. Other models use a suction port or, for HydroSteam Pet, a red-filter check. Classic Little Green; Little Green Cordless; HydroSteam Pet; Little Green Mini.
If the designated base port or duct still has no suction after the relevant checks, or you find a damaged component, contact BISSELL Support rather than opening the motor housing or attempting electrical repairs. For a replacement tank, hose, gasket, or tool, confirm the exact model number before ordering; the guides do not establish that one part fits every Little Green.

Match the guide to the model number
Little Green names cover several designs, and the official troubleshooting pages differ in their covered models and checks. BISSELL’s classic guide covers models 1400, 1425, 50Y6, 4098E, 4098N, and 1400P. Its Cordless guide covers 3682, 3734, 3732, 3734N, and 3682B. The HydroSteam Pet guide covers 3532, 3618, 3605, 3605F, and 3606. Use the page for your model rather than applying another variant’s filter, gasket, or test instructions.
