When a page kept showing stale data, Shubhra Pokhariya tried the familiar checks: tracing the request, rereading documentation, and examining cache boundaries. None helped. After stepping away for the evening, Pokhariya returned the next morning with a different question: not only where was fresh data entering, but where was old data being reused? The author says the fix took a few minutes. It is a personal account of a changed perspective, not proof that a break—or gardening—will solve a bug.
What happened when the stale-data bug would not yield?
In a DEV Community essay published July 14, 2026, Shubhra Pokhariya describes a page that continued displaying stale data after it should have updated. The application otherwise appeared to work, which made the caching issue harder to pin down.

Pokhariya checked obvious locations, followed the request flow, reread documentation, and considered cache boundaries. After those familiar approaches failed to reveal the cause, the author closed the laptop for the evening. The following morning, instead of opening the editor immediately, Pokhariya went to the terrace to tend plants and turn compost.
During that quiet routine, the author recalled an assumption worth revisiting: attention had gone to where fresh data entered the system, but not enough to where old data might still be reused. Back inside, Pokhariya says, the fix took only a few minutes. The essay does not describe the implementation, so readers cannot reproduce the fix from the account or independently verify the outcome.

What changed: the question, not a debugging recipe
The useful turn in the story is a shift in focus. Instead of continuing to inspect only the arrival of new data, Pokhariya reconsidered the places where existing data could persist. That is the remembered question in this particular caching incident—not a universal procedure for debugging stale pages.
Pokhariya describes the garden as a setting that made room to notice the assumption: “The garden simply gave my mind enough space to see it.” The line captures the author’s experience; it does not establish that gardening causes insight or that stepping away reliably improves debugging.

Why step away from the screen?
Pokhariya’s point is modest: repeatedly staring at the same code was not the only useful response to being stuck. The author writes, “The best solutions I have found did not always come from spending more hours in front of my screen.” That is personal reflection, not a claim backed by a measured result or a broader study.
Some developers go for a walk when they are stuck. Readers responding to the essay also described “getting up and walking away,” including taking a short walk to get a glass of water. Pokhariya names other possible ways to create a pause, such as reading, cooking, sitting quietly, or watching stars. These are examples, not tested or ranked interventions; the author does not present any particular activity as necessary.

What the account does—and does not—show
- It shows: one developer paused after repeated checks on a stale-data caching issue, returned the next morning, reconsidered where old data was reused, and says the fix followed quickly.
- It does not show: the technical change that fixed the page, independent confirmation of the result, or evidence that breaks improve debugging outcomes for developers in general.
- Its practical reflection: when familiar checks have stopped producing new information, a pause may give you room to reconsider an assumption. Whether that helps—and what kind of pause suits you—will vary.
Pokhariya closes with a thought that sums up the essay’s perspective: “Sometimes the fastest way to solve a bug is not to keep looking at the code.” In this account, the pause mattered because the author returned with a different question, not because a specific routine is guaranteed to work.
