Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Home Assistant weather data can become unavailable for different reasons, and there is no single fix for every provider. First identify the integration that supplies the affected entity, then check whether the problem is current conditions, forecast data, or both. Each provider has its own connection, credential, update, and forecast requirements.
First identify what is unavailable
- Open Settings > Devices & services and find the integration that provides the affected weather entity.
- Check whether the unavailable item is the current weather entity, a forecast in a card, or a forecast requested by an action. Home Assistant treats the weather entity and forecast retrieval as separate parts of its weather model. The Weather integration documentation describes the building block; the weather entity developer documentation explains forecast support.
- Use the provider-specific checks below. Do not assume that a cause affecting one integration applies to another.
Check the provider that supplies the data
Open-Meteo
Confirm that the Home Assistant instance can reach the internet. Open-Meteo does not require an account or API key, and its Home Assistant integration polls every 30 minutes. Its documentation says an unavailable entity can recover after connectivity returns and a subsequent update succeeds. See the Open-Meteo integration documentation.

Google Weather
Check that the integration has a valid API key and review its documented geographic limitations: forecast information is unavailable in South Korea and Japan. Google Weather fetches current conditions every 15 minutes and forecasts every hour, so a forecast problem may not match the timing of a current-conditions update. The Google Weather documentation covers setup and troubleshooting.
OpenWeatherMap
Review the API mode and version configured for the integration. Home Assistant’s documentation states that API V2.5 is no longer supported by its OpenWeatherMap integration. Check the OpenWeatherMap integration documentation for supported setup details rather than treating an API-version issue as a general weather-entity failure.

WeatherFlow local UDP
If you use WeatherFlow’s local UDP integration, verify that the Home Assistant server and the weather device are on the same subnet. This integration uses the local network; WeatherFlow also has a separate cloud integration for a different data path. See the WeatherFlow integration documentation.
When current conditions work but the forecast does not
Forecast retrieval is not guaranteed merely because a weather entity exists. Home Assistant exposes forecasts through weather.get_forecasts, and forecast support is optional for an integration. An integration may provide daily, hourly, or twice-daily forecasts, so check the provider’s documented support and make sure the card or automation requests a forecast type it offers. The weather entity documentation describes the available forecast model.

Use logs to narrow down the cause
- Open the Home Assistant logs and look for warnings or errors associated with the affected integration. The configuration troubleshooting guide explains how to use logs when diagnosing problems.
- For a Google Weather issue, follow its integration page’s instructions to enable debug logging and attach the resulting logs when opening an issue.
- When asking for help, include the integration name, whether current conditions or forecast retrieval fails, the relevant log messages, and any provider-specific configuration details that do not expose secrets. Never post an API key.
If the integration still cannot update
Recheck the provider’s current Home Assistant page for its credentials, API mode or version, geographic support, update behavior, and troubleshooting steps. Provider outages and API requirements can change, so an old setup guide may not describe the current integration. The available documentation does not establish one universal cause for an unavailable weather entity; the integration and the failing part of the weather data determine the next check.
