A Gemini API location error from a Cloudflare Worker does not necessarily mean your own country is unsupported. The request is made server-side, and Google AI Developers Forum guidance says Cloudflare does not guarantee where its servers run. Google may therefore assess the request differently from a call made on your computer. That is a documented possibility, not proof of the origin of any particular request or a guaranteed explanation for every error.
What a location rejection can mean
Google lists supported countries and territories for the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. Check the Gemini API and AI Studio available-regions page against the relevant user or account location. Availability is not the only possible reason for an AI Studio access problem: Google also lists an 18+ minimum age and Google Account age verification as factors that can trigger an AI Studio regional-page redirect.

Those account checks are distinct from a server-side API request. If the failure occurs in a Worker, a user’s supported country alone does not show where the upstream request is evaluated. In a Google AI Developers Forum response dated October 14, 2024, respondent afirstenberg wrote: “The problem in your case is that Cloudflare doesn’t guarantee the location of their servers.” That is the most directly relevant explanation found for this Worker scenario, but it does not identify the location of your particular request.
Google’s page also says Colab restrictions depend on the Colab instance’s region rather than the user’s region. That statement is specifically about Colab; it is not a formal description of Cloudflare Worker routing.

First establish which failure you have
Similar-looking messages may not share a cause. Developers have reported “User location is not supported for the API use without a billing account linked” from a Worker calling an older Gemini 1.5 Flash endpoint. The wording mentions billing, but it does not establish that linking billing is the only remedy. Another 2025 forum report describes a 401 regional-restriction response and an AI Studio redirect; the reply asked for the user’s actual region without a VPN and did not resolve the case.
Record the exact endpoint and model, HTTP status, complete response body, whether billing is linked, and whether the error appears in AI Studio itself or only in an API call. Also note whether the request goes directly to Google or through Cloudflare AI Gateway. These details help distinguish a regional rejection from an account, billing, endpoint, or integration issue.

Compare local and deployed requests
Make a minimal request with the same API key and request configuration from local development and from the deployed Worker. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not as proof that the Worker has a particular egress location.

If the problem is an AI Studio webpage redirect, check the separate age and account-verification requirements as well.
- Run the same request locally and in the Worker: Keep the model, endpoint, prompt, and key the same where possible. Capture the status and full response body for each run.
- Record account and route details: Note whether billing is linked, whether the key is on a free or paid tier, and whether the Worker calls Google directly or uses AI Gateway.
- Interpret the difference: If the local call succeeds but the deployed call fails, the execution or request path is a useful place to investigate. It does not, by itself, prove that geography is the cause.
Workarounds and alternatives, with limits
Keep the Worker and investigate its request path
The available sources do not establish a general way to force a Worker request to originate from a supported Google geography. A Cloudflare documentation issue discussed questions about AI Gateway request geography and an individual author’s experiments involving Durable Objects and smart placement; it did not provide an authoritative guarantee. Do not treat placement changes as a confirmed fix.

Consider the forum’s paid-tier suggestion cautiously
In the October 14, 2024 forum response, afirstenberg said that upgrading a deployment key to a paid tier “will work around this issue in most cases,” while a free-tier key could continue to be used for local development and testing. This is dated community guidance, not a universal product rule or promise that paid access will clear every location rejection. Check current billing terms, account eligibility, and actual API behavior before relying on it.
Test Cloudflare AI Gateway as an integration path
Cloudflare documents an AI Gateway integration for Google AI Studio, including endpoint patterns, cURL examples, @google/genai configuration, and an OpenAI-compatible route. The documentation was last updated April 20, 2026. It confirms that the integration is documented; it does not establish the upstream request’s geographic origin or guarantee that Gateway resolves a regional restriction.

Evaluate Google’s alternative for unsupported regions
For users outside the supported Gemini API and AI Studio list, Google points to Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Assess its current API, deployment requirements, and fit for your application. The available information does not establish that it is a drop-in replacement for a particular Worker application.
