React is a library for building user interfaces; AngularJS is the name for Angular’s 1.x framework generation, whose official support ended in January 2022. They differ in scope and support status—and AngularJS is not the same product generation as modern Angular, which began with Angular 2.0.
What is the difference between React.js and AngularJS?
The main difference is what each provides. React describes itself as “The library for web and native user interfaces.” It lets developers build interfaces from reusable components, but does not prescribe a complete application structure for concerns such as routing or data fetching. Angular is described by its maintainers as a web framework. These are different scopes, rather than two directly equivalent packages. React · Angular release documentation

| Application structure | Does not prescribe routing or data fetching; developers can select surrounding tools or use a full-stack React framework. | Part of the Angular 1.x framework generation; do not assume modern Angular features apply to it. |
| Support status | The React source describes the product, not an end-of-support date. | Official support ended in January 2022. |
Is AngularJS the same as Angular?
No. AngularJS is the name for all Angular 1.x versions. The Angular release documentation applies to Angular 2.0 and later, a distinct generation. Current Angular documentation describes that later product as a web framework. When a tutorial, job listing, or comparison says “Angular,” check whether it means AngularJS 1.x or modern Angular; the terms are not interchangeable. Angular versioning and releases

The AngularJS documentation says official support ended in January 2022. That matters most when choosing technology for a new project: AngularJS should not be treated as an actively supported option. For an existing application, the end of support is a maintenance and planning concern. Review the application’s dependencies, available team expertise, and migration constraints before deciding whether to maintain it or plan a move. The official API reference identifies its documented snapshot as version 1.8.4. AngularJS API Reference

How should you choose between React and AngularJS?
For a new application
Compare React with actively maintained framework options, not with AngularJS as if it were a current peer. React may fit a team that wants to choose its own surrounding tools or adopt a full-stack React framework. The structural trade-off is how much of the application approach you want supplied versus selected separately.
For an existing AngularJS application
The practical question is usually whether to maintain the current system or plan a migration, not whether to start a new AngularJS project. Account for the codebase, integrations, delivery needs, and the team’s ability to support a transition; the framework comparison alone cannot settle that decision.

For performance claims
There is no universal performance winner established here. Performance depends on the application and implementation, and no controlled React-versus-AngularJS test is available to support a blanket claim that one is faster.

Bottom line
React is a UI library; AngularJS is Angular’s discontinued 1.x generation. Modern Angular is a separate framework generation, so verify which Angular a comparison means before using it to guide a project decision.
