Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo clear up internal storage on your Samsung phone, first check Settings > Device care or Battery and device care > Storage. Review what is using space, then remove files you no longer need, clear an app’s cache when appropriate, or move files to supported external storage. Avoid tapping Clear data unless you intend to reset that app.
Check what is taking up space
Open Settings > Device care or Battery and device care > Storage. The wording and menu path vary by Galaxy model and software version. Storage is grouped into categories so you can identify whether the main use comes from apps, images, videos, downloads, or other files before deleting anything. Device Care may also surface duplicate, large, or unused files for review.

Delete files you no longer need
Review downloads and media
In My Files, open Downloads to inspect documents and other saved files. Review screenshots, photos, and videos in Gallery or through the relevant storage category. Select only items you are sure you no longer need. Samsung’s storage guidance also covers removing eligible unused apps and screenshots, and deleting old messages or Samsung Cloud backups; those are optional choices, not routine cleanup steps. Confirm what is selected before permanently deleting any backup.

Empty Trash or Recycle bin if you need the space back
Deleted items may remain in a Trash or Recycle bin rather than being removed immediately. If you have confirmed you do not need them, open the relevant bin in Gallery or My Files and permanently delete them there. Until the bin is emptied, the items may continue to occupy storage. Permanent deletion is not the same as moving files elsewhere, so check the selection carefully.
Clear an app’s cache without resetting it
An app cache consists of temporary files. To clear it for one app, go to Settings > Apps > [app name] > Storage > Clear cache. Menu names can vary by software version and app. This is different from clearing the app’s data: clearing cache is the narrower option when you want to remove that app’s cached files without deliberately resetting its saved settings or data.

Samsung states: “The only way to clear the cache on every app at the same time would be to perform a factory reset on your phone or tablet.” That statement appears on Samsung’s Clear the app cache and data on your Galaxy phone or tablet support page. A factory reset is not a routine storage-cleanup method; it resets the device, so do not use one just to clear caches.
Know what Clear data does before using it
Clear data resets the selected app to its factory-default state and removes its saved personal settings or data, according to Samsung. Depending on the app, you may need to sign in again, and locally stored content may be lost. Before proceeding, check whether you can access the account and whether the app’s content is synced or backed up. Some system apps do not allow their data to be cleared.

Move files off the phone when you want to keep them
Use a microSD card only if your model supports one
On a Galaxy phone with a compatible microSD slot, you can use My Files to select files and move or copy them to the card. This can preserve photos, videos, and other supported files without keeping another copy in internal storage. Samsung cautions that support varies by model and that many apps cannot be moved to an SD card; a card is not a universal way to expand app storage. Check your exact phone’s specifications and the file-management options shown on the device.
Transfer files to USB or a computer
Samsung documents connecting USB or SD storage through an OTG connection and transferring files to a PC over USB. Availability depends on the phone, connector, storage device, and connection. For a computer transfer, connect the phone with a USB cable and select the file-transfer mode when prompted, then copy the files you want to keep. Confirm that the copied files open on the destination before deleting the originals from the phone.

Storage and Memory are not the same thing
Storage is where files and apps occupy space. Memory is working memory used by apps. Device Care’s Memory > Clean now closes background apps to free working memory; it does not delete photos, downloads, or other files to create internal storage space. For room to save files or install apps, work from Storage and review files or app data instead.
Samsung explains the Storage categories and cleanup options in its guide to freeing storage space on a Samsung phone or tablet and describes Device Care’s memory cleanup in its Device Care guide.
