FPS Boost is available only for selected backward-compatible games on Xbox Series X|S. If its setting is missing, first check whether the exact game is on Xbox’s current Games Featuring FPS Boost list. For a listed game, look in Manage game > Compatibility options, turn on FPS Boost if it is offered, restart the game, and check its status in the Guide.
Why the FPS Boost option may be missing
FPS Boost is not a console-wide switch that works with every Xbox game. It applies to selected backward-compatible titles on Xbox Series X|S. Xbox has also said that compatibility options may not be available for games that do not support FPS Boost or Auto HDR.

- Confirm the game and console. FPS Boost is for selected backward-compatible games on Xbox Series X|S. Check the exact game against Xbox’s current list before troubleshooting the console.
- Open the game’s management screen. Select the game, open Manage game, then choose Compatibility options. If the game supports the feature and the option is available, FPS Boost should appear there.
- Turn on FPS Boost if it is offered. Select the setting, then restart the game so the change can take effect.
- Check the Guide while the game is running. Press the Xbox button and look for the FPS Boost indicator in the Guide overlay, near the clock. This helps confirm whether the feature is active.
If a supported game still does not show the setting
Check for title-specific instructions
Some supported games have had title-specific default behavior. In its March 2021 announcement, Xbox said FPS Boost was not enabled by default on Xbox Series X for Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. For that rollout, Xbox advised players to make sure the console was updated and rebooted. Those were instructions for those titles at that time, not a universal requirement for every FPS Boost game.

Update and reboot when appropriate
If Xbox’s current guidance for your title calls for a console update or reboot, follow it and check Compatibility options again. An update may be relevant to a supported title, but it should not be treated as a way to add FPS Boost to a game that is not listed.
Recheck the exact game entry
If the option remains absent, verify that you checked the right game rather than a related title, and consult current Xbox support for that game or console. The absence of the menu alone does not establish that the console is faulty; Xbox notes that compatibility options may be unavailable for unsupported games.

What FPS Boost changes—and what it does not
Xbox described FPS Boost as using new methods to increase the frame rate of select titles, with potential gains of nearly double and, in a few instances, four times the original frame rate. Those are descriptions of possible results on selected games, not a promise for every supported title. Xbox also noted that some implementations reduce resolution to maintain smooth operation.
The feature’s availability is determined by game support and its compatibility setting. The cited Xbox guidance does not establish that buying a particular display or cable will make a missing FPS Boost option appear.
