It does not identify the cause by itself. In YouTube Studio, check Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility, then review any restriction or policy notices. For general live access, YouTube requires channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16. The 50-subscriber minimum applies to mobile live streaming, not every way of going live.
Check which live-streaming method is blocked
Start by identifying whether you are trying to stream from the YouTube mobile app, a computer webcam, or an encoder on a computer. YouTube treats mobile live streaming separately: its mobile requirements include at least 50 subscribers. Do not assume that threshold applies to webcam or encoder streaming.

YouTube describes webcam and encoder streaming as computer methods, distinct from its mobile requirements. If Studio says live streaming is enabled but the mobile app still asks for 50 subscribers, the two messages may be referring to different eligibility checks.
Follow this troubleshooting sequence
- Open Feature eligibility. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility (also presented as Settings → Channel → Features in YouTube’s guidance). Check whether live streaming is available and whether phone verification is complete. Live streaming is among the features unlocked by phone verification. Availability can change after policy or copyright restrictions. See YouTube’s feature access and verification guidance.
- Check channel restrictions and notices. Look for a live-streaming restriction, Community Guidelines notice, or copyright action in Studio and in the email associated with the channel. YouTube says restrictions may follow a Community Guidelines strike, a removed live stream, or a copyright match to another live broadcast. Its notice email includes details and appeal instructions. Read YouTube’s live-streaming restriction guidance and follow the appeal route if one is offered. Do not try to evade an active restriction by streaming through another channel; YouTube prohibits circumvention while the restriction is active.
- Confirm the age requirement. YouTube’s general guidance says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. Someone under 16 may participate from an adult-owned account only when the adult is visibly present. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- If you are using a phone, check subscribers and activation time. YouTube’s mobile requirements specify at least 50 subscribers, along with verification and no recent live-stream restrictions. After turning on live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements.
- Consider your channel role. If you are a manager or editor rather than the channel owner, your ability to complete verification may depend on the channel type and your role. Ask the owner to check the feature settings if you cannot verify the channel yourself.
- If the checks pass but access still fails, seek account-specific help. Use YouTube’s feedback option or an eligible Creator Support route. The message alone cannot establish an unpublished threshold or explain an account-specific delay.
What the message does—and does not—tell you
“Your channel does not meet our eligibility requirements for live streaming” is a general eligibility message, not a diagnosis. YouTube’s official guidance says a channel needs to be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It does not mean every creator must reach 50 subscribers: that is a mobile-specific requirement.

Likewise, an enabled status in Studio does not necessarily satisfy every check in the mobile app. First confirm that the method you want to use is eligible, then check its method-specific requirements. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance and computer streaming tips cover routes separately.
