There is no documented YouTube rule that automatically ends a rain stream after “several hours.” One concrete cause to check is a break in the video feed: if broadcast auto-stop is enabled, YouTube says it ends the broadcast about a minute after the source stops sending video. Check YouTube Studio’s health messages and timestamps, the encoder or playback log, the broadcast’s auto-stop setting, and any account notice before settling on a cause.
Does YouTube have a several-hour cutoff for rain streams?
The available YouTube guidance does not establish a fixed “several hours” limit for rain streams or say that rain ambience is treated differently. Without the stream’s Studio messages, source logs, and broadcast settings, the specific reason it ended cannot be determined.

One often-confused figure is 12 hours. YouTube Help says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay; that guidance concerns archiving, not an automatic live-session stop. A stream can end for another reason, and replay capture is a separate question. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
What to check when your YouTube livestream ends

Read the Live Control Room health messages
Open the event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and review the health indicator and messages around the ending time. YouTube’s error guidance says messages appear alongside the health indicator and include timestamps; examples noted by YouTube include daily live-stream limits and an incorrect stream format. Match the timestamp to the moment the broadcast ended rather than relying on memory. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream errors

Compare YouTube reception with the source’s log
Check the encoder, media player, or other source log for a stop, connection loss, restart, or error at the same time. A local program can appear to be running while YouTube is no longer receiving its video. In YouTube’s API workflow, a stream status of
activemeans YouTube’s servers are receiving data from the encoder. Compare that status, if you use the API, with the source log and Studio’s health timestamps. Google for Developers: Life of a Broadcast -
Review the broadcast’s auto-stop setting
If auto-stop is enabled, YouTube says it will end the broadcast around a minute after video transmission on the bound live stream stops. In an API-managed broadcast, check
contentDetails.enableAutoStop; in a Studio-managed event, review the corresponding stream setting. Auto-stop can explain why a broadcast ended after a feed interruption, but it does not by itself explain what interrupted the feed. Google for Developers: Life of a BroadcastRank #2

Look for an account or policy notice
Check YouTube Studio and the channel’s notifications for a restriction, content removal, or live-streaming access notice. YouTube may remove content or restrict live-stream access for policy reasons, but an ended ambient stream alone is not evidence that enforcement occurred. YouTube Help: Community Guidelines

Check whether only the replay is missing
If the live event continued but there is no replay, check the archive guidance separately. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is not a stated 12-hour timer for ending a live broadcast. YouTube Help: Archive live streams

How to interpret what you find
| What the evidence shows | What it suggests | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The source stopped or lost its connection, followed by the broadcast ending about a minute later | Consistent with auto-stop being enabled after transmission stopped | Find why the source stopped, and verify the auto-stop setting. |
| The source reports output, but YouTube’s status or Studio health indicates it was not receiving a usable feed | The source’s local display does not establish that YouTube was receiving video | Compare encoder logs and Studio’s timestamped health messages. |
| Studio shows an error or daily live-stream limit message | A YouTube-reported stream error or limit may be relevant | Follow the message shown for that event; do not assume a general duration cap. |
| The event ran, but a replay is absent after a stream longer than 12 hours | Consistent with YouTube’s warning that a stream over 12 hours may not be captured | Treat this as an archive issue unless evidence also shows the live broadcast ended. |
| The channel has a restriction or policy notice | The notice may explain a restriction or removal | Read the notice and its stated scope; do not infer a policy action without one. |
Keep a record if the stream ends again
For the next incident, note the exact end time and save the Studio health message, the encoder or player log around that time, and the broadcast’s auto-stop setting. Those records help distinguish a source interruption from a YouTube-side error, a replay problem, or an account notice. Replacing hardware is not a reasoned first step until the evidence points to the source or connection.

If you have identified that the stream depends on a computer or encoder that must stay on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube: upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and Monthly is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
