Test the sound and stream health before going live. If you need a replay, plan for shorter sessions: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise a complete archive for a single 24-hour broadcast.
What you need for a YouTube ocean-sounds livestream
- A verified YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says channels must have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; initial access may take time to enable. Check your account before announcing a start date. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
- An image you created or have permission to stream, and an ocean recording with rights that cover the intended live broadcast and any saved replay. Check commercial-use and attribution terms too if relevant.
- Encoder software or hardware that can send a video-and-audio feed to YouTube. YouTube’s workflow uses a stream URL and stream key; it does not require a specific computer model. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
- A stable internet connection and power source, plus a plan to notice and recover from interruptions.
How do I make a YouTube live stream with a static image?
1. Prepare the image and audio
Choose an image that fits the aspect ratio of the stream canvas so it fills the frame without unwanted cropping or empty borders. Prepare a continuous ocean recording or playlist. Listen to the loop boundary with headphones and check for clicks, abrupt gaps, or unintended silence. Set a consistent level and make sure the audio does not clip. These are practical production checks, not special YouTube requirements.

2. Build the encoder scene
- Create a scene in your encoder and add the still image as a source. Fit it to the canvas.
- Add the ocean recording as an audio source. If it loops, play through a repeat and listen for a clean transition.
- Check that the encoder’s audio meter moves while the image remains still. Confirm that the intended audio device or file is selected.
- Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate using the guidance below. Save the scene and verify it plays correctly before connecting to YouTube.
This is a standard encoder scene made from an image and audio source; it is not a separate YouTube static-image feature.

3. Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, use the Stream tab to create or configure the stream. Copy its server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder.
- Start the encoder output and wait for YouTube to receive it. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast.
- Treat the stream key like a password. If someone else obtains it, reset or replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.
The server URL is the feed destination; the stream key authorizes YouTube to accept the encoder feed. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live stream settings help.
What encoder settings should I use?
For a mostly static picture, a high frame rate is usually unnecessary. Choose settings your encoder and upload connection can sustain, with headroom for normal network variation. YouTube’s current recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS include:

These values are YouTube Help recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection or encoder will remain stable. Check YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance before launch because platform recommendations can change. Use 720p or 1080p according to the image and the bandwidth you can sustain; do not choose a bitrate that consumes all available upload capacity.

- Set the stream to unlisted or private for a rehearsal, then send the encoder feed.
- Inspect the YouTube preview: check image framing, listen for audible and unclipped ocean sound, and look for ingest warnings in the stream-health panel.
- Watch playback on another device and, if possible, a different internet connection. A local preview alone may not reveal playback or network problems.
- Test the setup under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to what the broadcast will contain and monitoring stream health. For an unattended setup, restart the encoder and router during a rehearsal and check how the broadcast recovers.
- If you have a backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection and confirming the backup takes over. YouTube recommends testing failover and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube live-streaming tips
Can a YouTube live stream run for 24 hours?
You can plan an encoder broadcast to run continuously, but that does not mean YouTube guarantees uninterrupted delivery. A local computer setup depends on power, the encoder, and the creator’s internet connection. A dropped connection, software crash, or power loss can interrupt the feed. Arrange a way to check stream health and a restart or backup procedure rather than treating a 24/7 schedule as a set-and-forget guarantee.

Will YouTube archive a 24/7 live stream?
YouTube says that all streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise that a single stream running 12 hours or longer—including a 24-hour stream—will be retained in full. If you need replays, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours, verify each archive in YouTube Studio, and test transitions so viewers are not left with a long dead period. Copyright, reused content, and monetization
Use media you made or are licensed to use, and keep records of the permissions and attribution terms. Rights for the live broadcast do not automatically settle whether you may retain a replay or monetize it; check the license for each use. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish that an ocean-sounds stream with a still image will qualify for monetization or how a particular channel’s reused-content review will be decided. Do not assume the format guarantees monetization.
