If the gap occurs at the same point every time your nature video repeats, the first thing to investigate is the loop boundary: the file may contain silence there, or the playback handoff may introduce a discontinuity. That pattern is a useful clue, not a confirmed diagnosis—and it does not by itself prove YouTube is at fault. Compare the source, OBS output and YouTube playback before changing settings or buying equipment.
First, find out whether the gap follows the loop
Note whether the audio gap happens on every repeat, at the same point in the video, or at irregular times. A gap that reliably coincides with the end and restart of the clip points first to the source or loop transition. An irregular gap is less specific and warrants checking the wider streaming chain.

This is a troubleshooting inference, not a documented YouTube rule. Without the source file, OBS configuration and encoder logs, the symptom alone cannot identify the cause.
Check the video file and OBS loop setting
Listen to the source at the boundary
Play the file locally through its ending and restart. Listen for a stretch of silence, a click, or an abrupt change in the ambient sound. If the gap is present in local playback, the edit is the likely place to fix it: adjust the in/out points, choose a better-matched loop point, or use a subtle crossfade if it suits the material. These are editing options, not a guarantee that a particular change will solve every gap.

Confirm the correct OBS control is enabled
OBS has different loop controls depending on the source type. In the source’s properties, check:
- Media Source: enable Loop. OBS describes this setting as restarting the file after playback completes.
- VLC Video: enable Loop Playlist. This source supports playlists and requires VLC to be installed; the setting restarts the source after it runs out of media files.
OBS documents these controls on its Media Sources page. Verify the source you are actually using rather than assuming that one source type’s setting applies to another.

Compare the source, OBS output and YouTube playback
Make a short local recording of the OBS output, or monitor it while the source repeats, and compare that recording with the source file and the YouTube live playback. This helps locate the stage where the gap first appears:
- Gap in the source and OBS recording: focus on the file’s audio edit or the source’s loop transition.
- Source is clean, but the OBS recording has a gap: inspect OBS source configuration and the output or encoder path.
- OBS recording is clean, but YouTube playback has a gap: review YouTube stream-health messages and the encoder’s actual output settings.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple viewer formats, so the playback a viewer hears may not exactly match the encoder’s raw output. The comparison narrows the investigation; it does not, on its own, identify every possible cause.

Check YouTube stream health and encoder settings
YouTube recommends testing before going live with audio and motion similar to the real stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the broadcast. Its live encoder guidance gives these RTMP/RTMPS recommendations:
- Use AAC or MP3 audio.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR) encoding.
- Set keyframe frequency to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- For audio, use 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 audio.
- Recommended audio bitrate is 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1.
These are platform recommendations, not a specific fix for a gap that coincides with a media loop. Change settings in response to the configuration you are using and the health messages you see, rather than changing unrelated values at random.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API health diagnostics can flag unsupported audio codecs or sample rates, too many audio channels, multiple audio streams, mismatched audio settings between primary and backup streams, and keyframe intervals longer than 4 seconds as a buffering concern. The LiveStreams API documentation describes these health categories. A warning identifies something to investigate, but the available diagnostics do not document a universal fix for a one-second loop-boundary gap.

Troubleshoot by the pattern you observe

Do not assume a one-second gap means you need new hardware. Checking the source and stream configuration is the better first step for this symptom.
