A Galaxy phone or tablet may be playing an app notification; a refrigerator or TV may make sounds during normal operation, while some beeps or persistent noise can point to a problem. Identify the device, the sound, and when it happens before trying a fix.
Start by identifying the device and the sound
Note whether the sound is a chime, beep, pop, crackle, hum, buzz, or repeated alert. Also note what was happening when it began: a phone was idle, a refrigerator was cooling or making ice, or a TV was on a particular input. The same sound can have different causes across product types, so do not apply phone settings to an appliance or vice versa.

- Galaxy phone or tablet: look for a notification, repeated alert, or system sound.
- Refrigerator: distinguish ordinary operating sounds from beeping or unusually loud, persistent noise.
- TV: consider temperature-related popping or noise from the TV, its cables, or a connected device.
- Another product: check its model-specific Samsung manual or support page.
If a Galaxy phone or tablet makes a random sound
Samsung’s U.S. support guidance for a Galaxy phone or tablet recommends using notification history to trace an unexplained alert. Settings labels and paths can vary with model and software version.
Trace the alert to an app
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications. Sort apps by most recent or most frequent to find one that sent an alert around the time of the sound. Turn off an app’s notifications only if you no longer want them.
- If notification history is not already enabled, open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Notification history and turn it on.
- After the next unexplained sound, return to Notification history and check the recorded alerts. Samsung says the history can include dismissed or snoozed alerts and notifications received in the last 24 hours. Samsung’s guidance puts the key step simply: “The next time your device makes an unexplained noise, review the Notification history to track down which app is sending notifications.” Samsung’s Galaxy random-notification troubleshooting guide.
Check alerts that may repeat
In Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings, check Repeat notification alerts if the sound seems to recur after an alert. Also review Wireless emergency alerts if the sound could be an emergency alert. Do not disable emergency alerts casually; Samsung notes that Presidential alerts cannot be disabled through this setting.

Separate notification sounds from system sounds
Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and check notification volume. Samsung distinguishes notification volume from system volume, which controls sounds such as button and touch feedback. In Sounds and vibration > System sound, you can also review which system sounds are enabled. If the sound may be the result of a temporary system error, restart the device as a basic check. If a Samsung refrigerator makes a noise
Crackling, popping, humming, or ice-maker sounds
Some sounds are part of normal refrigerator operation. Samsung says light crackling or popping can come from plastic parts expanding or contracting as temperatures change, often during defrost. Compressor humming and some ice-maker sounds can also be normal. If the refrigerator has no water line connected, Samsung advises turning off the ice maker to avoid related noise and potential damage. With a water line connected, water filling the ice maker may itself be audible.

Beeping or a blinking display
Check that the doors close fully and that nothing is preventing them from shutting. Samsung says a blinking display with beeping may indicate that the refrigerator temperature is too high. If a door was removed and reattached, consult the model manual for guidance on checking its wiring-harness connection. If you are unsure the sound is coming from the refrigerator, confirm its source before troubleshooting it.
When to seek help
Samsung advises contacting its support center about unusually loud cracking, buzzing or humming, or hissing. Its explanations of refrigerator noises and beeping are in Samsung’s refrigerator noise troubleshooting guide.

If a Samsung TV makes a noise
Occasional popping
Samsung says occasional cracking or popping may result from materials expanding and contracting as the TV’s temperature changes. Check that the set has adequate ventilation, sits flat and level, and is not exposed to direct airflow from heating or air-conditioning.
Buzzing, crackling, or humming
Check the cable connections and install available software updates. If the sound occurs on a particular input, see whether another connected device on that input produces it; testing the external device on another TV can help distinguish its noise from the TV’s. Contact Samsung support if the noise persists. See Samsung’s TV noise troubleshooting guide.

If it is another Samsung product
Use the support page or manual for the exact model rather than borrowing steps from a phone, refrigerator, or TV guide. For a washer, note the point in its cycle when the sound occurs and compare it with normal and abnormal examples in the model guidance. Samsung’s washer noise guide is from Brazil, so use your local Samsung support page or manual for exact instructions: Samsung Brazil’s washing-machine noise guide.
