OBS repeats a file when playback ends, but its Loop setting does not repair the join or add a crossfade. Check the boundary first; then check OBS’s mix and output level if the noise occurs elsewhere or sounds distorted.
First, find out whether the bump follows the loop
Listen through at least two consecutive repeats. If the sound lands at the same point each time, inspect the source file’s ending and beginning. A hard edit, silence, level mismatch, or abrupt change in ambience can make the restart stand out even when OBS is looping the file as expected. The OBS Media Sources documentation describes Loop as replaying the file after playback completes; it does not describe seam repair. OBS Media Sources.

If the noise happens at different times, it may not be the file boundary. Check whether another OBS source or event is entering the mix. OBS recommends checking audio at the source and through OBS monitoring, and listening back to a test recording. OBS audio monitoring.

- A sharp click: often consistent with a sudden waveform jump at an edit point. Audacity explains that smoothing the transition with a short fade can help avoid clicks. Audacity Fade and Crossfade.
- A broader bump or swell: may come from an abrupt change in loudness or sound texture, such as silence leading into active ambience or a louder ending restarting at a quieter beginning. A very short fade may not disguise a large change; the edit point or overlap may need to move.
- Distortion or harshness at other points too: check the output level as well as the edit. OBS says output should remain below 0 dBFS to avoid clipping distortion. A periodic bump can still be an edit problem, so do not assume every seam is clipping. OBS audio mixer.
Repair the file boundary
1. Audition the ending straight into the beginning
Play the final seconds of the file, then immediately play its first seconds. Listen for a cut through a sound, leftover silence, a level jump, or a change in steady background texture. If the file does not make a natural transition on its own, changing OBS’s Loop setting will not make it seamless.

2. Choose a compatible edit point
For steady sleep ambience, look for an ending and beginning with a similar level and texture. If the sound is changing noticeably, try moving the edit to a calmer or more compatible section rather than forcing a join through a prominent event or musical phrase.
3. Try a short fade or an overlap
A short fade can smooth a small edit click. For a more substantial transition, overlap the outgoing and incoming sections and crossfade them: one fades out while the other fades in. Audacity’s Crossfade Tracks effect requires an overlap. Audacity Fade and Crossfade.

Audition both crossfade curves rather than relying on a universal setting. A constant-gain fade may dip slightly in the middle; a constant-power fade can hold the perceived level more evenly but may raise peaks. A short fade is not a guaranteed fix for a large change in ambience. Adjust the edit or overlap, export a test, and listen through several repeats.

4. Compare repairs by what you hear
| Repair | What to check |

| Hard edit | Whether a click, bump, level dip or texture change remains at the join. |
| Short fade | Whether it removes a small click without making the start or end sound unnaturally quiet. |
| Crossfade | Whether the overlap sounds continuous, without a distracting dip or swell, and leaves enough peak headroom. |
Test the sound OBS actually sends
- Check the source: confirm the intended file and OBS source are active, then monitor the source audio directly.
- Check OBS monitoring: listen through OBS and confirm no other source or scene behavior is contributing sound at the repeat point. OBS recommends checking audio both before it reaches OBS and through OBS monitoring. OBS audio monitoring.
- Record a test: capture a representative section that includes a repeat, then listen back to the recording. OBS recommends recording and reviewing before going live. OBS audio monitoring.
- Watch the peak meter: play the loudest part of the overlap. If output approaches or crosses 0 dBFS, reduce the level and listen again for clipping. Lowering gain can create headroom; it cannot fix an edit that sounds discontinuous. OBS audio mixer.
Make sure the audio is cleared for a live stream
Audio quality and broadcast rights are separate checks. YouTube’s Audio Library provides production music and sound effects; for Creative Commons tracks, YouTube says attribution is required in the video description. Check the applicable license for the intended broadcast and any use outside YouTube. YouTube also cautions that it cannot speak for other libraries or off-platform rights questions.
