Usually, LinkedIn is showing a cached preview from an earlier share—or it cannot read the image information or image file on the page. Start by checking the URL in LinkedIn’s Post Inspector. If that still shows the wrong image, check the page’s Open Graph metadata, the image’s dimensions, and whether LinkedIn can access the file.
1. Refresh the preview LinkedIn has cached
- Open LinkedIn Post Inspector, enter the full URL, and inspect the preview it returns.
- If the preview is now correct, share the URL in a new post. LinkedIn says refreshing affects preview information for new posts; it does not change the preview on posts that have already been published.
- If the preview is still wrong, continue with the metadata and image checks below.
LinkedIn’s URL troubleshooting guidance recommends allowing 48 hours after the URL was last shared or after site tags were changed, then checking again. That is guidance, not a guarantee that every preview will update within that time. LinkedIn: Troubleshooting issues sharing URLs

2. Check the page’s sharing metadata
LinkedIn says its share box relies on websites to provide oEmbeds and/or Open Graph Protocol (OGP) information. If the expected information is missing or wrong, LinkedIn may show other page content or fail to retrieve the intended preview. Ask the site owner or developer to inspect the HTML served for the exact URL being shared and confirm these tags identify the intended page and image:

For example, the tags should follow this pattern, with absolute URLs that resolve publicly:

3. Confirm the image meets LinkedIn’s guidance
For images in the website-sharing preview, LinkedIn specifies a minimum size of 1200 × 627 pixels, recommends a 1.91:1 aspect ratio, and sets a 5 MB maximum file size. Images under 401 pixels wide display as thumbnails rather than the larger preview image. These are LinkedIn’s stated specifications, not a guarantee that a particular image will appear.

If the image meets those requirements but still does not appear, LinkedIn identifies blocked retrieval or a protected image location as possible causes. Make sure the image URL loads without a login, private-network access, or other restriction that would prevent LinkedIn from fetching it.

4. Distinguish a website fix from a Page-post override
If you are an eligible LinkedIn Page super admin or content admin, LinkedIn documents controls in the Page-post composer to customize a link preview’s image and title. This changes that Page post’s preview; it is not a general fix to the website’s metadata and should not be assumed to be available for personal-profile posts.

For this Page-post customization flow, LinkedIn recommends 1200 × 627 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio. The image must be more than 200 pixels wide to use the larger image format; narrower images appear as a thumbnail on the left. 5. What to check if the preview is still wrong
- Post Inspector is correct, but an existing post is wrong: the refresh applies to new posts, not published ones. Create a new post with the URL.
- Post Inspector still shows the wrong image: check the page’s
og:imageand other OGP tags for the exact URL shared. - The intended image is missing despite correct tags: verify that it meets the stated size and file-size guidance, and that LinkedIn can retrieve it from its URL.
- You recently changed tags or shared the URL: allow the 48-hour period LinkedIn recommends, then inspect again.
- You are sharing from a LinkedIn Page: an eligible Page admin can use the composer’s image and title customization controls as a post-specific workaround.
LinkedIn also says to allow a few seconds for a preview image to appear while composing a link post; if LinkedIn cannot retrieve a preview image, the URL can still be shared. LinkedIn: Share articles or links
