A Kindle’s Bluetooth is mainly for audio: on supported models, it can connect a compatible audio device so you can hear VoiceView screen-reader feedback or listen to an audiobook. It is not general-purpose support for pairing a phone, keyboard, or mouse. Whether the feature is available depends on your Kindle’s model and generation.
What Kindle Bluetooth is for
Amazon describes Bluetooth as a way to listen to VoiceView commands or an audiobook through a supported Bluetooth device. That gives the feature two closely related uses: spoken accessibility feedback and audio playback. Amazon’s Bluetooth pairing guidance covers those audio uses.

VoiceView reads interface and book content aloud
VoiceView is Kindle’s screen reader. With a compatible audio device connected, it can speak navigation feedback and supported reading content, helping readers who rely on spoken output use the device. Amazon’s VoiceView guide explains its navigation and reading functions.
Bluetooth can carry audiobook sound
If you want to listen to an audiobook, a supported Kindle can send its audio to a compatible Bluetooth device. This does not mean every Kindle book has audio or behaves the same way; the documented use is audiobooks and VoiceView output, not automatic narration of every ebook.

What it does not do
Bluetooth does not turn a Kindle into a tablet or laptop for ordinary peripherals. Amazon says pairing Bluetooth phones, keyboards, and mice is not supported at this time. The feature is best understood as wireless audio connectivity, not a general accessory connection.
Check whether your Kindle supports Bluetooth
Amazon says Kindle devices released during or after 2016 support Bluetooth connectivity, but the precise support path is model-specific. Amazon’s device identification page lists Kindle generations and notes that not all generations are available in every marketplace. Find your model at Settings > Device Options > Device Info, then check Amazon’s Kindle device identification page and the Bluetooth instructions for that model.

One older exception is the Kindle Paperwhite (7th Generation): Amazon lists a Kindle Audio Adapter as an accessibility option for that model. It is a legacy, model-specific setup, not an accessory that current Kindles generally need.

Pair Bluetooth headphones or another audio device
Amazon’s general pairing sequence is:
- Put your headphones, earbuds, or other audio device into pairing mode and keep it within range of the Kindle.
- Open the Kindle’s Bluetooth settings, turn Bluetooth on, and scan for devices.
- Select the audio device from the results and connect.
Menu wording can vary by Kindle model and software version. Amazon refers to a “supported Bluetooth device”; it does not certify every headphone or earbud model for every Kindle. Before choosing an accessory, confirm the Kindle supports the feature and that the audio device can connect to other devices.

If the Kindle cannot find or connect to the device
Amazon recommends these checks when Bluetooth pairing fails:
- Temporarily turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices that could interfere with finding or selecting the audio device.
- Check that the audio device can connect to another device.
- Update the Kindle software.
- Restart both the Kindle and the audio device, then try pairing again.
Using VoiceView after pairing
VoiceView uses gestures to navigate and read. Amazon’s VoiceView guide documents moving between items and pages, starting continuous reading, pausing spoken feedback, and reconnecting to a previously paired audio device. The guide lists English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish for VoiceView over Bluetooth; availability may depend on the supported Kindle and setup.

If you factory-reset a Kindle, Amazon says the VoiceView audio file may need to be downloaded and reinstalled. Follow the current model-specific instructions in Amazon’s VoiceView guide.

Choosing an audio setup
- Supported Kindle with built-in Bluetooth: Pair a compatible audio device for VoiceView or audiobook playback.
- Kindle Paperwhite (7th Generation): Amazon lists a model-specific audio adapter as an accessibility option.
- Model or accessory compatibility unclear: Check the Kindle’s generation and Amazon’s instructions before buying headphones or an adapter. Amazon does not publish a complete compatibility matrix for every Bluetooth audio accessory and Kindle combination.
