If you can’t share a Facebook post, first identify which action is failing: publishing a new post, resharing an existing post, sending it to a Page, or publishing through another app. Then check the controls relevant to that action—usually the post’s audience and privacy settings, Page access and posting identity, or the app’s publishing permission. Facebook’s general help pages explain these controls, but they can’t identify the cause of an error on a particular account without its context and message.
First, identify what “share” means
Facebook uses sharing-related actions in different situations. The fix for one does not necessarily apply to another.

- Publishing a new post: You compose content and choose its audience before publishing. Facebook’s posting instructions describe this process.
- Resharing an existing post: You use the Share option on content that is already on Facebook. Its visibility and the context in which it was posted can matter; the available guidance does not establish that every post can be reshared to every destination.
- Posting or sharing to a Page: The Page you are acting as and your access to that Page are relevant checks.
- Publishing through a connected app or website: The external app needs the relevant Facebook publishing permission.
Note the action, the destination, the profile or Page you are using, and any error message. That information helps narrow down which setting to inspect.

When you create a post, use the audience selector to choose who can see it. Facebook’s privacy settings guide also covers controls under “Audience and visibility,” including settings for posts, Pages, followers and public content, profile and tagging, and blocking. Available options can vary by profile type.

For an existing post, inspect the audience shown on that post and consider who controls it. Meta notes that when you post on someone else’s profile, that profile owner controls who can view the post. An audience setting determines visibility; the cited guidance does not say that making a post Public will fix every failed share or make every destination available.
Start by checking the post’s current audience and the intended destination’s audience. Change a setting only if it matches what you want the post to be visible to, rather than treating a broader audience as a guaranteed workaround.

If you’re trying to share to your Facebook Page
Check that you have access appropriate to the Page action and that you are using the intended identity. Facebook distinguishes Facebook access from task access; its instructions explain how to give, edit or remove Page access and direct users to switch into the Page to manage access.

These checks apply when a Page is the destination or you intend to publish as that Page. They do not, by themselves, establish why sharing between personal profiles might fail.

If you publish through a connected app
If a third-party app or website is creating or publishing the post, check whether Facebook has granted it the permission it needs. Facebook says an app with permission to share activity may publish to Feed, a timeline, a Page, or a group. The specific publishing permissions available can differ between apps; if the needed permission is not available, the app cannot publish on your behalf. See Facebook’s guidance on controlling whether an app can publish posts for you.
This check is for app-mediated publishing. It does not explain a missing Share button in Facebook’s regular interface unless an external app is involved.

What to do when the setting looks right
- Record the exact failure: Note whether you were publishing a new post or resharing one, the destination, the profile or Page identity in use, and the full on-screen message.
- Check only the relevant controls: Review the post’s audience and privacy settings; if a Page is involved, check Page access and identity; if an external app is involved, check its publishing permission.
- Report a suspected privacy problem: If you believe your privacy settings are not working properly, use Facebook’s available privacy troubleshooting and problem-reporting guidance.
Facebook’s Support Inbox and request-another-review instructions concern reports about other people’s content and decisions on those reports; they are not the normal remedy for a missing Share option or a failed share. The available help guidance does not promise a particular support response or establish that a specific account is restricted.
