Because a full-page screenshot does not necessarily scroll the live page. Images using loading="lazy" and content triggered by IntersectionObserver may not load until they approach the visible viewport. Scroll through the page before capture, then wait for the images or page-specific ready state you need. The exact controls depend on your screenshot API.
Why a full-page capture can still omit images
“Full page” describes how much of the document appears in the resulting image; it does not guarantee that the browser scrolled through the page first. Playwright describes full-page screenshots as capturing the full scrollable page as if it were displayed on one very tall screen: Playwright Screenshots guide.

That distinction matters because some pages defer work until an element is near the viewport. Native lazy-loaded images and JavaScript using IntersectionObserver may not fetch or render below-the-fold content if capture expands or clips the document without moving the visual viewport. A Playwright issue discusses this behavior.
How to make the page load its images before capture
- Check what is missing. Note whether the blank images are below the initial viewport. Inspect the page, if possible, for
loading="lazy",IntersectionObserver, or another scroll-triggered loader. - Scroll down before taking the screenshot. Use incremental scrolling rather than one jump so viewport-based loaders have a chance to activate as their content approaches view. The Screenshot API capture documentation also recommends scrolling before capture to trigger lazy-loaded content.
- Wait for the relevant images or page state. A navigation lifecycle event does not prove that every deferred image has loaded. Wait for the target image elements to finish loading or for an application-specific ready signal.
- Capture only after checking readiness. Verify the result using the same screenshot API and browser configuration you use in production; providers may handle full-page capture differently.
For Playwright, consult the current Page API for screenshot and navigation wait options. Playwright cautions against treating networkidle as a general-purpose readiness signal: a quiet network does not necessarily mean the deferred images you care about have appeared.

Choose a fix that matches the loader and capture service
- Viewport-triggered loading: a pre-capture scroll should activate loaders that depend on elements entering the viewport.
- Specific image readiness: wait for the target images, not just navigation completion.
- Provider behavior: check whether the named service scrolls before full-page capture and what interaction or wait controls it supports. Do not assume another provider’s parameter names apply.
- Capture time budget: scrolling and waiting take additional time. There is no single supported numeric cost or duration for the extra work; measure it with your page and provider.
Troubleshooting missing images
Images below the fold are blank
Likely cause: the page was captured without scrolling through the area where the images load. Add incremental scrolling before capture, then wait for those images.
Scrolling did not help
Check whether the site uses a different trigger, such as an application-specific event or a delayed request. Wait for a page-specific ready condition or the target image elements, and consult your provider’s current documentation for supported interaction controls.

The screenshot still finishes before images appear
Do not treat navigation completion alone as proof that deferred content is ready. Extend the wait or use a condition tied to the required images, while staying within the service’s capture time limit.
