First make the app render the rows you need; then take the screenshot. A virtualized list often keeps only the visible range in the page, so a full-page screenshot alone may not include every record. Wait for an app-specific completion signal, scroll the list’s actual scroll container to trigger more rows, verify the target rows or final count, and capture the intended scope.
Why virtualized lists make screenshots incomplete
A conventional page may render its full content before you capture it. A virtualized list instead renders only a moving range of rows as needed. Rows outside that range may not exist as rendered page content yet. Consequently, a screenshot can faithfully capture the page while still omitting records the app has not rendered.

There are two separate questions to answer: has the app loaded the data you want, and does the screenshot cover the rendered area you intend to show? Network activity ending does not necessarily answer either question.
Reliable workflow: wait, trigger, verify, capture
- Find the list and its scroll owner. Determine whether the document scrolls or a nested panel does. Scrolling the page will not necessarily trigger a list inside a scrollable panel.
- Choose a meaningful readiness condition. Wait for a loading indicator to disappear, a specific row to appear, or an expected count or status to be reached. The right signal depends on the application.
- Trigger the additional rows. Scroll the list’s own container or bring a known near-bottom element into view if that is how the app requests more rows.
- Verify completion in the UI. Check for the expected last row, count, or another app-defined completion state before capturing.
- Capture the right scope. Choose a viewport, component, full page, or a sequence of overlapping captures according to what must appear in the image.
Playwright’s scrolling guidance specifically identifies manual scrolling as a way to force an infinite list to load more elements: Playwright input and scrolling.

Choose the screenshot method for the result you need
| Method | What it captures | Best use | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Viewport screenshot | The current browser viewport | A particular visible state or debugging step | Rows outside the viewport are absent. |
| Locator or element screenshot | The selected element’s rendered box | A list panel or other component | A scrollable element shows its currently scrolled content, not every row in the list. |
| Full-page screenshot | The page’s full scrollable extent | Ordinary pages where the desired content has been rendered | It does not itself make a virtualized component render every row. |
| Sequential overlapping captures | Several scrolled positions or ranges | Long or virtualized lists when every visible section matters | Check the overlaps when assembling images to prevent gaps, duplicates, or missing rows. |
| App export or render-all mode | App-defined complete output | When data completeness matters more than screenshot fidelity | Availability and behavior depend on the app. |
Playwright documents full-page capture as a screenshot of the full scrollable page, rather than just the visible viewport. That describes page extent; it is not a guarantee that a virtualized list has rendered all records. See the Playwright screenshot guide.
Playwright example: wait for a row, scroll the list, then capture
The following Node.js example uses Playwright. Replace the selectors and completion condition with ones that match your app. It assumes the list panel itself scrolls, the app loads more content near the bottom, and a known final row identifies completion. If the app exposes a reliable total count instead, assert that count; do not assume an arbitrary row name or count.
const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 1000 } });
try {
await page.goto('https://your-app.example/list', { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
const list = page.locator('[data-testid="virtual-list"]');
const loading = page.locator('[data-testid="list-loading"]');
const finalRow = page.getByRole('row', { name: /final expected record/i });
await list.waitFor({ state: 'visible' });
await loading.waitFor({ state: 'hidden' });
// The app loads more records as this panel approaches its bottom.
// Stop only when the app-specific target row appears.
for (let attempt = 0; attempt < 100; attempt++) {
if (await finalRow.isVisible().catch(() => false)) break;
await list.evaluate(element => {
element.scrollTop = element.scrollHeight;
});
// Prefer a meaningful app signal here if one is available, such as a
// loading indicator becoming hidden after each fetch.
await loading.waitFor({ state: 'hidden', timeout: 5000 }).catch(() => {});
await page.waitForTimeout(150);
}
await finalRow.waitFor({ state: 'visible', timeout: 10000 });
await list.screenshot({ path: 'list-panel.png', animations: 'disabled' });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
This captures the list panel’s current rendered box. For a screenshot of the page’s current viewport, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'viewport.png' }). For the page’s scrollable extent, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'full-page.png', fullPage: true }); that option does not replace the scroll-and-verify workflow for a virtualized list.

The example’s loop is intentionally tied to an app-specific final row. Its attempt limit is a guard against an endless loop, not evidence that 100 scrolls are sufficient. A production script should report a clear failure if the completion condition is not reached and should use the app’s actual loading or count signals.
Wait for application readiness, not just network quiet
Playwright discourages using networkidle as a generic test-readiness signal and recommends assertions tied to web content. Background requests can keep a page active, and requests can finish before the application has updated its rendered list. Prefer conditions such as:
- A loading indicator becoming hidden after the list request.
- A known target row appearing.
- A displayed record count reaching an expected value.
- An explicit “all results loaded” status supplied by the app.
Use the condition that actually means the desired data is ready in your application. A wait for an arbitrary delay can reduce race conditions but cannot prove completeness.

Avoid flaky row enumeration and unstable captures
Playwright’s locator.all() returns the matches present immediately; it does not wait for a changing list to finish. The documentation warns that using it while the element list changes can produce unpredictable results. Wait for a stable, app-specific condition before enumerating rows. See Playwright’s locator documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor visual stability, Playwright’s locator screenshot API can disable animations with animations: 'disabled'. In the Playwright test runner, screenshot assertions wait for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing. Neither technique confirms that the app has loaded every record; verify data completeness separately. See Playwright page assertions.
Capture every record when one image is not enough
If the requirement is to show every record in a virtualized list, do not assume one full-page screenshot will do it. Scroll through the necessary ranges and capture sections, using overlap so the assembled result can be checked for continuity. Validate the final image for repeated or missing rows. If the application provides an export or a mode that renders all records, consider it when complete data matters more than screenshot fidelity.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting
- The screenshot contains only the first rows: The list may be virtualized. Scroll the actual list container to trigger additional rendering, verify the target row or count, and only then capture.
- Scrolling the page does not load more rows: A nested panel may own scrolling. Identify that element and scroll it rather than the document.
locator.all()returns too few rows: It does not wait for matches or list stability. Wait for a meaningful UI condition first; remember that a virtualized list may still expose only the current range.networkidlenever arrives or arrives too soon: It is not a reliable generic signal for list readiness. Replace it with a condition tied to the list’s visible state or expected data.- The element screenshot is missing off-screen rows: It captures the selected element’s rendered box and current scrolled content, not all virtualized records. Capture successive ranges or use an app-supported complete output.
- The full-page screenshot is still incomplete: Full-page extent does not force the app to render each virtualized row. Trigger ranges before capture, or use overlapping captures or an app export.
- Repeated captures differ visually: Wait for the list to settle and consider disabling animations for the screenshot. Still verify the expected data independently.
Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot API call, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. It can remove cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. These clean-shot features do not establish that a particular app’s virtualized list has loaded every row, so use an application-specific readiness mechanism when completeness matters.

Frequently asked questions
Does a full-page screenshot scroll through a virtualized list automatically?
Not necessarily. Full-page capture covers the page’s scrollable extent, but it does not promise to trigger the app’s loading behavior or render every virtualized row.

How can I tell whether the whole list has loaded?
Use an app-specific signal, such as the expected last row, a total count, or an explicit completion status. The correct signal depends on the application.
Should I use locator.all() to wait for rows?
No. It returns the currently matching elements without waiting for a changing list to stabilize.
