Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Amazon lists EPUB as a supported file type, but conversion or delivery can still fail. Start by checking the file type and size, then use the right troubleshooting path for wireless sending, file conversion, or USB transfer.
Why an EPUB can open but still fail to send
Opening an EPUB in a phone, computer, or ebook reader is not the same as sending it to a Kindle. The first app may be able to display the file even when Amazon’s Send to Kindle conversion or delivery process does not complete. Amazon lists EPUB as supported for wireless Send to Kindle, with a maximum of 200 MB per file; supported format does not mean every individual file will convert successfully. That distinction matters when choosing what to try next: diagnose a wireless send or conversion issue first, rather than assuming the EPUB is unreadable or buying a cable.

- Confirm the file type. Make sure the file you are sending is actually an EPUB.
- Check the file size. Amazon documents a limit of 200 MB per file for Send to Kindle. If the EPUB exceeds that limit, the documented route does not support sending it at that size. Amazon’s Send to Kindle page
- Retry through the official wireless service. Use Send to Kindle and check the account or destination device selected in the service interface. Amazon documents EPUB support through this route; the exact account and device symptoms can vary.
If the error points to conversion
A conversion error suggests a file-level issue, but it does not identify one universal cause. Amazon’s general guidance for personal-document conversion errors recommends removing password protection or other security settings. It also notes that large or complex tables can cause problems. These are checks to try, not proof that any one feature caused a particular EPUB failure. Amazon personal-document conversion help

Check security restrictions
If the EPUB is password-protected or has security restrictions, remove them in the source file or the tool used to create it, then try sending the revised file. Do this only if you are authorized to change the document.
Inspect complex content
If the book contains large or complex tables, review whether they are essential and whether the EPUB can be exported with simpler table layout. Amazon’s advice concerns personal-document conversion errors generally; it does not establish that tables explain every EPUB failure.

Use Kindle Previewer to inspect the EPUB
Amazon recommends Kindle Previewer to validate EPUB files and check for common errors. Open the EPUB in Previewer and inspect whether it loads and whether the pages display as expected. Kindle Previewer help and Amazon’s EPUB manuscript guidance
Previewer is a useful diagnostic, not a definitive test of Send to Kindle personal-document delivery. Amazon’s Previewer and KDP guidance concerns previewing and publishing workflows; a successful preview does not guarantee that wireless sending will succeed.

How the four Kindle paths differ
| Path | What Amazon documents | What it helps check | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wireless Send to Kindle | EPUB support and a 200 MB maximum per file. Amazon | Whether you are using the personal-document route and staying within its stated size limit. | That every supported EPUB will convert and arrive successfully. |
| Kindle Previewer | Opens EPUB; Amazon recommends it for validation. Amazon KDP | Whether the EPUB can be previewed and whether display issues or errors are visible. | Successful personal-document delivery through Send to Kindle. |
| USB transfer | Separate instructions that vary by operating system and Kindle model. Amazon USB transfer help | Whether a local transfer or device-recognition procedure works for your setup. | A fix for wireless conversion; USB is a separate route. |
| KDP manuscript validation | EPUB manuscripts that meet Kindle Publishing Guidelines are supported for the publishing workflow; Amazon recommends Previewer checks. Amazon KDP | Whether a manuscript meets requirements relevant to Kindle store publishing. | Whether the same file will send as a personal document. |
When USB transfer is worth trying
USB transfer follows a different process from wireless Send to Kindle. Amazon provides separate steps by computer operating system and Kindle model. Windows instructions treat the connected Kindle as external storage; on Mac, USB transfer for Kindle Scribe and Kindle models released in 2024 may require Amazon’s Send to Kindle app. Check the instructions for your specific model and operating system before troubleshooting the cable or computer. Amazon USB transfer help
A USB transfer attempt may help determine whether local transfer works, but it does not resolve or diagnose the wireless conversion process by itself. Amazon recommends wireless Send to Kindle for transfers.

If it still fails
If the file is an EPUB below the documented size limit, you have checked the applicable conversion guidance, and Previewer does not reveal an obvious display issue, contact Amazon support. Provide the exact error message, Kindle model, computer or phone operating system, and file size. Those details help describe the failure without treating a Previewer pass or a USB attempt as proof that wireless delivery should work.
