Usually, the message points to one of two different problems: the title may not be licensed for your country, or the streaming service may be unable to identify your current location. Which applies depends on the exact message, whether other titles work, and whether you’re traveling or using a VPN.
Why a title can be missing from your country’s catalog
Streaming rights are often negotiated by territory. A studio or distributor may license a show to one service in one country and a different service elsewhere; in some places, no one is offering the title, or another platform has exclusive rights. Netflix also says regional preferences can influence which titles it offers. Its explanation is that it cannot get regional rights when no one is selling them or a title is exclusive to another streaming platform: Netflix’s explanation of why titles vary by region.

Availability can change over time, too. A show might not yet have been released locally, or it may have left the service. A subscription does not necessarily include every title in every country. Amazon Prime Video’s global terms say content and the way it is offered vary over time and by location: Amazon Prime Video Global Terms of Use.

Netflix’s E103 error and the message “This title is not available in your current region” can mean Netflix cannot determine which country you’re in. That is a location-detection problem; it does not, by itself, show that the title has permanently left Netflix. Netflix identifies an active VPN as one possible cause and provides a guide for cases where it thinks you are in a different country: Netflix’s current-region error guidance.

Other services have their own location errors and instructions. Disney+ associates Error 73 with access from a region where the service is unavailable or with VPN or IP-anonymizer use. Its suggested actions include disabling a VPN, testing the connection, and restarting the device. Disney+ availability can also change during travel, and some live sports may depend on location services or blackout restrictions. Check Disney+’s current help instructions for your specific error before changing settings.
How to tell which kind of problem you have
- Only one title is affected: Local licensing, release timing, a catalog change, or a profile restriction is plausible. If the title is still visible but gives a current-region error, location detection may be involved.
- The message names your current region or shows Netflix E103: Treat it as a possible location-detection issue, rather than proof that the title is gone for good.
- Many titles or the whole service are unavailable: Check whether you are traveling, recently moved, or using a VPN, then consult that service’s location guidance. A single missing title and a service-wide access problem are not the same issue.
What to try, depending on the message
If Netflix shows a current-region error
- If a VPN is active on your device or network, turn it off and try the title again. Netflix says a VPN can cause its current-region error.
- If you are traveling or have recently moved, sign out of Netflix and sign back in.
- If you have not moved and Netflix still identifies the wrong country, follow its “Netflix thinks I’m in a different country” troubleshooting guide.
If the title is missing without a current-region error
Check whether the profile’s maturity setting or blocked-title settings hide the title. Also check the profile language, since Netflix lists language among the possible reasons a title may not appear. If the title has not been released locally or lacks local rights, changing profile settings will not add it. If it used to be available, consult Netflix’s help for titles leaving the service.

Travel, location checks, and service terms
What you can watch may change when you cross a border. Netflix says its catalog can change when you travel outside the EU; when traveling to another EU member country, it retains the home catalog for a limited period. Netflix recommends signing out and back in after travel or a move if availability appears wrong. The length and conditions of that period are not specified in the cited help guidance, so check Netflix’s current travel information for your circumstances.

Services may verify location as part of deciding what they can offer. Amazon Prime Video’s global terms state that availability is limited to certain locations, content can vary by location and time, and Amazon uses location-verification technologies. The terms prohibit techniques used to obscure or disguise location. The global terms page says it was last updated August 26, 2026; local terms and service providers depend on where you are. Read the terms that apply in your country: Amazon Prime Video Global Terms of Use.
A VPN is not a reliable way to restore a title that is not licensed in your country. It can trigger a location error on Netflix, and Amazon’s global terms prohibit location-disguise methods. A router, streamer, cable, or adapter cannot grant territorial rights either.
