The standout feature is the card backing, not a different Spider-Man character or a special figure sculpt. A historical auction listing reproduced on a collector forum described an 8-inch Mego Spider-Man displayed on a Hulk/Spider-Man variant card. The Hulk connection is therefore part of the packaging’s character art.

Mego Museum’s Spider-Man gallery documents a Parkdale Novelty card variant whose front shows Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk. Its gallery places that variant in 1979, while the seller of the auctioned example called it a 1978 Canadian issue. Those are distinct claims: the reference supports the existence of a related card variant, but does not independently verify the auction example’s 1978 date.
What do the date and Canadian packaging evidence show?
Mego Museum says Spider-Man figures were produced from 1973 to 1982 and describes the Parkdale Novelty Spider-Man/Hulk card as a 1979 variant. Its Hulk gallery also documents Canadian packaging from Parkdale Novelty and Grand Toys, with English and French rather than French alone. That provides context for bilingual Canadian Mego packaging, but it does not establish that every bilingual Spider-Man card is from 1978—or that the auctioned example and the 1979 card are identical.

That is one historical result, not a current valuation, a typical price, or evidence of what a comparable example would sell for today. The cited sources do not establish a present-day price range.

How should collectors compare examples?
When describing or evaluating a candidate, separate what can be observed on the item from what its seller claims about its history. These details can help distinguish examples, but they do not amount to a complete authentication method.
- Card front and character art: check whether Spider-Man and the Hulk both appear, and compare the layout with the documented variant.
- Issuer and regional packaging: note whether the card identifies Parkdale Novelty or Grand Toys, where that information is present.
- Printed date and languages: record the actual wording on the packaging rather than relying only on a listing title or seller attribution.
- Condition: inspect the card and blister separately. Creases, fading, tears, crushing, yellowing, or damage can materially distinguish two otherwise similar examples.
The reproduced auction listing includes its own condition description, but a single listing does not set a standard for grading or establish the condition of other copies.

Is the variant genuinely rare?
The card is a documented variant, and the historical listing shows that at least one example was offered at auction. But none of the cited sources provides a production total, a count of surviving examples, or a measured rarity rate for this particular figure-and-card combination. The seller’s use of “rare” is an attributed description, not a quantified finding. The safest conclusion is that the packaging is distinctive and collectible, while its actual scarcity cannot be measured from these records.
