If a custom fold animation does not work on your Galaxy Z Fold, first identify what you mean by “fold animation.” A moving lock-screen wallpaper, an app switching between the cover and main displays, a boot animation, and an effect triggered by physically opening or closing the phone are different features with different fixes. Samsung’s documentation covers the first three, but does not establish a universal consumer setting for a custom animation driven by the folding movement itself.
Identify where the animation should appear
Use the location and behavior of the effect to choose the relevant troubleshooting path. The controls are not interchangeable.

If you mean a wallpaper or lock-screen effect
Check which Good Lock feature you are using
Samsung describes Wonderland as a way to create animated lock-screen and home-screen wallpapers and customize transitions between Always On Display and the lock screen. That feature description does not establish that Wonderland changes an animation triggered by physically opening or closing a Z Fold. Check Lock Star for the documented Adaptive Clock issue
- Open Settings → About phone → Software information and check the Android and One UI versions.
- If the phone is on Android 16 / One UI 8 and the problem is with Adaptive Clock (also called Stretch Clock), open Good Lock and check the installed Lock Star version.
- Samsung identifies Lock Star 7.0.00.14 as a version that may have this issue and Lock Star 7.0.1.10 as the version to update to for the documented fix. Update Lock Star through its supported store route, then test the clock again.
- Check the selected background: Samsung says Adaptive Clock does not support multi-pack backgrounds.
These version details apply to the documented Adaptive Clock issue, not to every wallpaper, screen transition, or custom fold animation. The guidance is on Samsung’s Adaptive Clock support page; exact availability and labels can depend on the device and software release.
If an app changes or restarts when you fold the phone
Check the consumer continuity setting
- Open Settings → Display → Full screen apps.
- Select the app or service that behaves differently between displays and choose Full screen, if that option is available.
- Switch between the cover and main displays and test whether the app continues as expected.
Samsung cautions that some apps may not fully support App continuity, so changing this setting cannot add support that the app itself lacks. The path and labels may vary by device or software release. See Samsung’s guide to Flex mode and viewing apps on Galaxy foldable phones.

Understand why some apps restart
App continuity is about an app restoring the user’s state after a configuration change, such as folding or unfolding the device. The display area changes when you move between the cover and main screens, and the app must handle that change appropriately. Samsung’s App continuity developer guide recommends resizable support for broad compatibility with changing sizes and form factors. If an app activity is not resizable, it may need to restart to work in the new display configuration; a restart prompt or icon is not itself a custom fold animation.

For developers, Samsung documents resizeableActivity as the setting that enables broad compatibility with dynamic resizing and form factors. When it is false, the app does not support multi-window and continuity, and a restart may be required. Samsung also documents android.supports_size_changes as an option for an app that does not support multi-window but needs continuity. These are app-development settings, not consumer switches to change on the phone.

If the animation is at startup or shutdown
First establish whether the Fold is managed by an organization using Knox Configure. The documented controls are for enterprise device management, not a normal Good Lock customization.
In Knox Configure, assign a cover-screen animation as well as a main-screen animation. Samsung warns that on Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip devices the cover screen may appear black during bootup or shutdown if a main-screen animation is configured without a cover-screen animation. If you mean an animation triggered by opening or closing the Fold
The Samsung sources cited here document wallpaper and lock-screen effects, app continuity across displays, and managed boot or shutdown animations. They do not establish a universal consumer setting for a live custom animation triggered by the physical folding movement. That is a limit of the documented feature scope, not proof that no model, app, or software version can implement such an effect.

Distinguish a missing animation from a static image, an app restart, a black display, or a transition that appears on only one screen. Those symptoms point to different features and settings.

If the phone also has hinge resistance, display failure, or another physical problem, treat that as a separate hardware issue and contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider. A case, screen protector, or hinge tool is not an established fix for animation behavior by itself.
