If a cordless power tool battery won’t charge, check the outlet, battery-and-charger compatibility, seating, temperature, and contacts before assuming the pack has failed. Charger lights and temperature limits vary by model, so use the manual for your exact battery and charger. If these basic checks do not resolve the problem, stop troubleshooting and contact the manufacturer or an authorized service center.
Why won’t my cordless tool battery charge?
Charging trouble can come from the power supply, an incompatible or poorly seated battery, a temperature lockout, dirty contacts, or a fault in the charger or pack. Work through these checks in order; do not open the battery pack or try to bypass its protection electronics.

1. Confirm the outlet works
Plug a lamp or another appliance into the outlet, and check whether a wall switch controls it. DEWALT lists these as checks when a battery pack does not charge properly in its DCB115 charger manual.
2. Verify the battery and charger are compatible
Use a charger designed for that battery platform, and confirm the pairing in both product manuals. A charger that fits physically is not necessarily compatible. Milwaukee lists an incorrect battery type among possible causes of charger behavior in its charger troubleshooting guide.

- User Guide:When installing the battery, align it with the slot and apply moderate pressure until you hear a click, indicating it is securely in place. After installation, gently pull the battery to verify it is locked. Clean the contacts regularly and use compatible batteries to ensure proper operation.
3. Reseat the battery
Remove the pack, then insert it fully into the charger so it sits securely. Milwaukee’s operator manual recommends removing and reinserting a pack for certain indicator problems; the exact light behavior and procedure depend on the model. See the relevant Milwaukee operator manual.
4. Let the battery return to its charging temperature range
A pack that is too hot or too cold may pause charging until it reaches the acceptable range. Milwaukee describes a flashing red indicator as a temperature condition in the applicable manual, with normal charging starting once the pack returns to range. Do not assume that this color or pattern means the same thing on another charger.

Temperature limits are model-specific. For example, the cited DEWALT manual recommends an ambient charging temperature of 65–75°F (18–24°C) for best life and performance, and says not to charge below 40°F (4.5°C) or above 105°F (40.5°C). Those are DEWALT manual values, not universal limits. Check the manual for your pack and charger rather than applying them to another brand.

5. Inspect the contacts and charger cavity
With the charger unplugged, look for visible debris on the battery terminals or in the charger cavity. Keep conductive material, including metal chips and grinding dust, out of the cavity; DEWALT warns that such material can cause problems. Follow the cleaning method in your product manual, and do not use liquids or solvents unless the manufacturer specifically instructs you to.

- Compatability: DEWALT 12V MAX*, DEWALT 20V MAX*, and FLEXVOLT batteries
- Portability: DCB1104 4A charger is 15% smaller than DCB115 4A Charger.
- Mounting Capability: Two screw wall mount (screws sold separately)
Why is my battery charger flashing?
A flashing light is not a universal error code. Its meaning depends on the charger and battery model: it may indicate a temperature condition, a connection issue, an incompatible pack, or a fault. Check the exact charger manual’s indicator table before interpreting the pattern. For example, Milwaukee describes temperature-related flashing red behavior in one operator manual, while its troubleshooting guide documents other light patterns for connection or pack issues.
How can I tell whether the battery or charger is bad?
After checking power, compatibility, seating, temperature, and visible contacts, a known-good compatible charger can help isolate the problem. Milwaukee recommends trying one when a pack may be faulty. Use only a charger confirmed compatible with your battery platform; never use an incompatible charger or attempt to jump-start the pack.

- Compatible with 12V MAX* and BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX* lithium ion battery/ slide pack batteries
- Green light indicator shows battery is charging and when the BLACK+DECKER battery is fully charged
- BLACK+DECKER 20V Battery Charger recharges slide pack 1.5-Ah batteries in 40 minutes or less
- Battery and charger sold separately
If the same pack still will not charge on a known-good compatible charger, the pack may need service. If multiple compatible packs fail on the original charger but charge on another, the original charger may be at fault. These comparisons can narrow down the likely source, but they do not replace a manufacturer diagnosis.

When should I stop troubleshooting?
Stop if the pack or charger appears damaged, if the problem persists after the basic checks, or if resolving it would require opening a sealed component. Do not open, electrically jump-start, or bypass protection in a battery pack, and never burn or incinerate one. Refer repairs to the manufacturer or a qualified authorized service provider.

Warranty terms vary, and the available manufacturer guidance does not establish coverage for your specific item.
