The exact controls depend on which feature your Tesla has—such as Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, or Full Self-Driving (Supervised)—as well as the vehicle, equipment, market, and software. These adjustments change how assistance behaves; they do not make the car autonomous or replace your responsibility to supervise.
First, identify the feature and confirm its controls
“Assisted Driving” is not one universal Tesla setting. Tesla’s U.S. materials describe distinct features, including Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, and Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Their available settings and controls differ. Before changing anything, check the feature name and use the Owner’s Manual in your vehicle for instructions that match its configuration and software.

For example, Tesla’s support instructions place Full Self-Driving (Supervised) customization under Controls > Self-Driving > Speed Profile. The U.S. Model 3 Autosteer manual describes speed choices under Controls > Self-Driving. These are examples, not guaranteed paths for every Tesla. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) support page and the vehicle’s own manual are the references for the controls available to you.
Choose how the vehicle selects its speed
Autosteer
The cited U.S. Model 3 manual documents a choice between using the detected speed limit and using the vehicle’s current speed. If you select the speed-limit basis, you can set an offset as a fixed amount or a percentage. Review both the basis and offset before driving; a setting that suits one road or traffic condition may not suit another. See Tesla’s Model 3 Autosteer instructions for the documented options.

Full Self-Driving (Supervised)
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) offers a customizable Speed Profile. Tesla says the profile affects how quickly the vehicle drives and how often it makes speed-based lane changes. Choose a profile appropriate to the drive, but do not treat any profile as a safety guarantee or assume it will handle every situation as expected. The available choices may depend on your vehicle and software. Tesla describes the setting on its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) support page and in the Model Y Owner’s Manual.
Set the following distance for Traffic-Aware Cruise Control
Traffic-Aware Cruise Control maintains speed and provides an adjustable following distance. In the cited U.S. Model S instructions, you change that distance with the steering wheel’s right scroll button. Check your own vehicle’s manual for the applicable control. Check how assistance engages
On vehicles equipped with Self-Driving Activation, the cited Model 3 manual describes Single Click and Double Click options. Depending on the selected option, one press can engage both Traffic-Aware Cruise Control and Autosteer, or Autosteer can require a double press. Availability depends on configuration and manufacture date. Confirm what a press will activate in your vehicle rather than relying on another Tesla’s setup. Know how to disengage before you start
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) guidance lists braking, steering manually, and vehicle-specific controls such as the gear stalk or right scroll wheel as ways to disengage. Which control applies depends on the vehicle. Consult its manual before setting off so you know how to take over promptly; do not assume another model uses the same control. Keep supervising, whatever the settings
Tesla’s Model 3 Owner’s Manual states: “Autosteer is a hands-on assistance feature.” The Model Y manual warns drivers not to assume Full Self-Driving (Supervised) will stop or continue through an intersection as expected; it says to pay attention and be ready to act immediately. Speed choices, profiles, following distance, and activation behavior do not remove the need to monitor the road and take over when necessary. Read the applicable warning in Tesla’s Model Y Owner’s Manual.
