For battery life, use Sennheiser’s published runtime as a guide and check the charge directly; its documentation does not establish how much runtime any individual sound setting saves.
Start with the right fit and app
This guide is for the over-ear Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless, not the separately named MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds. Use the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app for its EQ, sound modes, and Sound Personalization features.

Check the ear-cushion seal
Before changing sliders, make sure each cushion sits fully around the ear with as little air leakage as possible. Sennheiser says a good fit supports both sound and ANC performance. If the cushions are worn or no longer sit securely, fit may be the issue rather than an EQ setting; Sennheiser lists ear cushions as spare parts, but availability was stated to be later in 2026.
Choose an EQ approach
Sennheiser offers two distinct ways to tailor sound: direct equalizer adjustment and a guided personalization process. Support says the two cannot be used at the same time.

The manual says stored sound settings remain active when you use a different Bluetooth device without the app connected. You do not need to keep the app connected for those saved settings to remain in effect. See Sennheiser’s getting-started guidance and instruction manual.
Set ANC or Transparency for the environment
ANC reduces outside noise; Transparency lets more of your surroundings through. Choose between them based on whether you want fewer environmental sounds or greater awareness. You can toggle or fine-tune these modes on the headphones or in Smart Control Plus, according to Sennheiser’s use guidance. If noise cancellation seems ineffective, check that ANC has not been turned off and review the app’s Custom option in the troubleshooting guidance.

What to change for longer battery life
Sennheiser rates the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless for up to 57 hours of music playback with Bluetooth and ANC, based on its product-page test using an iPhone at mid volume. That is a manufacturer test figure, not a guarantee for every volume, Bluetooth connection, codec, signal condition, or listening pattern. The product page also specifies approximately two hours for a full charge.
The reviewed Sennheiser documentation does not publish controlled runtime comparisons for EQ, Sound Personalization, ANC level, Transparency, Dolby or spatial audio, or codec selection. That means there is no substantiated setting-specific battery-saving figure to recommend. Tune sound and noise control to your preference rather than assuming that switching one option will deliver a known runtime increase.

Understand the fast-charge discrepancy
Sennheiser’s product page says a 10-minute charge provides up to 7 hours of playtime. Its support article instead says approximately 10 hours from a 10-minute charge. Both are official Sennheiser statements, so treat the figures as conflicting rather than combining them; the product-page specification is the more conservative figure to use as a planning reference.
Check the remaining charge
Press the headphone button twice to see the remaining battery on the LEDs and hear a voice prompt. Sennheiser also says battery status is displayed when the headphones are removed from your head. These checks help you decide when to recharge without guessing from sound settings.

Other controls that affect convenience
The app can change voice or tone prompts, and the touchpad can be deactivated to prevent accidental inputs, according to the manual. These are usability choices, not documented sound-quality or battery optimizations. Sennheiser says the headphones power off after 15 minutes of non-use; its documentation does not quantify a battery benefit for that idle behavior.
