On a Samsung Galaxy phone, check Deep sleeping apps, Sleeping apps and Power saving first if notifications arrive late or only after you open an app. Samsung explicitly warns that sleeping apps may have delayed notifications; deep sleeping apps do not run in the background, and their notifications arrive only when opened. Power saving restricts background connectivity, which can also interfere with delivery.
Which battery settings can delay Galaxy notifications?

How to check and change the app sleep lists
On many newer Galaxy phones, open Settings > Battery > Background usage limits. On some older models, the route is Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits. Samsung guidance may also show Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits. If those labels do not match your phone, search Settings for “Background usage limits.”

If the affected messaging, mail, security or other time-sensitive app is listed, remove it. Samsung says a deep sleeping app receives updates and notifications only when you open it.
- Look in Sleeping apps. Remove the affected app if you do not want it subject to intermittent background operation and possible notification delays.
- Use Never sleeping apps if available. Add an app that needs reliable background operation to this list. Samsung notes that the available screens and behavior can vary by phone.

Check Power saving if several apps are affected
If notifications from multiple apps are late, or the problem happens while Power saving is on, temporarily turn the mode off and see whether delivery changes. This is a diagnostic comparison based on Samsung’s description of background data restrictions, not proof that Power saving is the cause.
Samsung’s current guidance places the control under Settings > Battery, though labels can vary. See Samsung’s Power saving mode guide for its instructions. Power saving restricts background apps’ Wi-Fi and mobile data and applies background-data restrictions to all apps while enabled.
When to consider Adaptive battery
Adaptive battery is a less certain lead than the sleep lists or Power saving. Samsung says the feature learns usage patterns and may restrict some background functions for optimized apps, but its guidance does not specifically establish delayed notifications as an effect.
