Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallAfter moving furniture, check your robot vacuum’s saved map for outdated keep-out zones or virtual walls, clean zones, room dividers, and any app-added furniture markers. Edit only what no longer matches the room, then run a mapping run or clean-everywhere mission if the robot needs to discover newly accessible floor. Whether it can update the map during an ordinary cleaning job depends on the make and model.
Which map settings should you check first?
Open the saved map and compare its boundaries and labels with the room’s current layout. Start with settings that can prevent the robot from reaching usable floor or send it to the wrong place.

- Keep-out or no-go zones and virtual walls: Move, resize, or remove boundaries that now block an open area. Add or adjust an exclusion if the new layout creates an obstacle you want the robot to avoid.
- Clean zones: Check that saved zone targets still cover the intended floor area. A zone drawn around the former furniture arrangement may now target the wrong spot.
- Room dividers and labels: If the app lets you split rooms or rename them, check whether the new layout makes an existing boundary or label misleading.
- Furniture or flooring markers: Some apps let you place furniture or set flooring material on the map. Update only the markers your app provides and that matter to its cleaning behavior.
Features and menu names vary by brand, model, app version, and region. If you cannot find one of these controls, your model may not support it.

If the move only makes a saved boundary or target zone inaccurate, edit that setting and check the route. If the move has opened floor the robot has never mapped, it may need to explore that area. A targeted room or zone clean is not necessarily an exploration job.

iRobot says that after rearranging furniture or renovating, owners should run a mapping run or a “clean everywhere” mission: a robot directed to specific areas will not actively search for new space. Its support guidance also says i3, i4, and i5 maps do not update during cleaning, and that modifying those maps requires deleting the map and starting a new mapping run. Other Imprint models may support editing room dividers, labels, and zones, depending on device, app software, and region. Read iRobot’s mapping guidance and its map-editing and zone guidance.
That is not a universal rule for all robot vacuums. Check your model’s instructions before deleting a saved map: a furniture move by itself does not always require a full remap.

How do the instructions differ by brand?
| Brand and documented example | What the guidance says | What to take from it |
|---|---|---|
| iRobot | Its mapping guidance recommends a mapping run or clean-everywhere mission after a furniture rearrangement when newly opened space needs to be found. The same support page says i3, i4, and i5 maps do not update during cleaning. iRobot mapping guidance | Use the model-specific workflow. For the stated i3/i4/i5 limitation, the guidance says map modifications require deleting the map and starting a new mapping run. |
| Roborock | The S6-series manual says map saving must be enabled to use virtual no-go zones, and warns that manually moving the robot or significant home-environment changes may cause virtual barriers and no-go zones to be lost. Its multiple-map guidance describes saved-map mode and successful return to the dock as conditions; examples may differ by model or firmware. Roborock multiple-map guidance | Do not assume another Roborock generation has the S6 menu or behavior. Check the manual and app instructions for your model. |
| Ecovacs | Its support guidance describes a “Home Furnishing” feature for adding or resizing interior furniture and adjusting flooring material after mapping. Ecovacs Home Furnishing guidance | This is available only on supported app and device setups, not a universal map control. |
How should you update the map and verify the result?
- Identify the robot and app. Note the exact make and model, and check the app version. Map tools and their behavior differ across models and software.
- Inspect the saved map. Compare it with the room now, looking for stale keep-out zones, virtual walls, clean zones, room dividers, and editable furniture or flooring markers.
- Edit the relevant controls. Move, resize, or delete only boundaries and targets that no longer fit. If a furniture-marker feature exists, update the markers that apply.
- Choose the right run. If the robot needs to discover newly accessible floor, use a mapping run or a clean-everywhere mission if your model supports it. Make sure the robot can reach the area and keep the floor clear enough for it to travel.
- Check the saved map and route. Confirm the robot found the opened space and can navigate around the revised boundaries. If its position remains wrong or the map is badly distorted, use the manufacturer’s model-specific recovery steps; those may include restoring an earlier map or creating a new one.
How precisely should you draw zones?
Zone behavior and localization tolerances vary by model, so verify the robot’s actual route rather than assuming a drawn line is exact. For iRobot Clean Zones and Keep Out Zones, the manufacturer describes the former as cleaning targets and the latter as exclusions. Its guidance says a Keep Out Zone should cover the area to exclude, not just the entrance; it also recommends a small buffer because the robot may be off by a few centimetres and warns that too many zones or an obstructed route can limit access. Treat those as iRobot-specific instructions, not measurements or behavior guaranteed for other brands. See iRobot’s zone guidance.
