Three refrigerator warnings deserve attention, but for different reasons: reported performance and value concerns about the Frigidaire EFR786 and Smeg FAB38RCR, and an official fire-and-burn recall covering specific Cooluli 10-liter and 15-liter mini-fridges. The Cooluli warning is the one that calls for immediate action if your unit matches the recall criteria; the other two are reasons to scrutinize the evidence and the fit before buying, not proof that every unit is unsafe.
At a glance: what the warnings mean
| Product | Reason for caution | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Frigidaire EFR786 | SlashGear reports concerns about noise, energy use, and usability, including a freezer without an independent temperature setting. Its energy claim is attributed to Consumer Reports testing, but the exact rating is not established here. SlashGear | If considering it, verify current model-level test results, energy information, and service terms before purchase. |
| Smeg FAB38RCR | SlashGear reports a high price and temperature-stability concerns, attributing freezer fluctuations of up to 50°F to Choice testers. The original Choice test details are not independently available here. SlashGear | Check current independent testing, usable capacity, dimensions, and price; monitor a refrigerator you already own with a thermometer if concerned. |
| Specific Cooluli 10-liter and 15-liter mini-fridges | An official CPSC recall identifies certain units as presenting fire and burn hazards. It does not cover every Cooluli mini-fridge. CPSC recall notice, August 13, 2026 | Check the label and batch number. If confirmed recalled, stop using the unit and follow the official remedy instructions. |
Why the Frigidaire EFR786 may not suit every kitchen
SlashGear describes the EFR786 as loud and awkward to use, citing a freezer without its own temperature control and a crisper drawer that is difficult to access. Those are practical trade-offs: freezer settings may depend on the refrigerator’s shared controls, and a hard-to-reach crisper can make routine use less convenient.

SlashGear also attributes poor-or-below-average energy consumption to Consumer Reports testing. The exact Consumer Reports rating and test details are not established here, so treat that as a reported finding rather than a directly verified rating. Before buying, compare the current energy information and seek model-specific testing; do not assume that the criticism applies to other Frigidaire refrigerators.
What to verify before buying the Smeg FAB38RCR
SlashGear flags the FAB38RCR’s price and reports poor temperature stability, attributing freezer fluctuations of up to 50°F to Choice testers and reviewers. Because the original Choice test is not available here for independent verification, that number should be treated as an attributed report, not a confirmed result for every unit.

The same SlashGear article says the refrigerator/freezer provides 18 cubic feet of capacity despite its large exterior dimensions. Capacity, dimensions, pricing, and availability can vary by market or change over time; check the current listing for the specific region and configuration you are considering. Compare usable storage with the appliance’s footprint rather than relying on appearance or headline capacity alone.
A refrigerator/freezer thermometer can help you observe temperatures in an appliance you already own. It cannot correct a temperature-control fault or make a recalled product safe.

How to tell whether a Cooluli mini-fridge is recalled
The CPSC recall dated August 13, 2026 applies to specified Cooluli 10-liter and 15-liter mini-fridges. The affected units have an internal power supply, two power-input ports for AC and DC, and no usual external “brick” adapter. The label is inside the door; check its model and batch number rather than relying on the product name alone.

- Configuration: internal power supply with AC and DC input ports, without the usual external adapter brick.
The CPSC says the switch can short circuit, creating fire and burn hazards. The notice covers about 250,000 units and reports at least 19 incidents involving smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or fire; property damage above $80,000; and one smoke-inhalation injury. These figures describe the recall notice, not the likelihood that any individual unit will fail.

If your unit matches
- Stop using the mini-fridge immediately.
- Follow the current instructions in the CPSC recall notice and Cooluli’s recall process, including the required unplugging and cord-cutting steps.
- Complete the stated remedy: a free replacement DC power cord and a permanent sticker to cover the AC port. Do not resume use until you have followed the official instructions.
If the model, batch number, or configuration does not match, do not infer recall status from the Cooluli brand alone. Use the official notice to check the exact product identification.

A separate CPSC notice dated July 24, 2025 concerns certain Frigidaire-branded Curtis International mini-fridges: models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175 within specified serial-number ranges. The notice excludes the EFMIS129-B and EFMIS129-C variants from the listed EFMIS129 range, and tells affected owners to stop using the unit and request a refund. Use reliability surveys as context, not a model blacklist
Consumer Reports’ September 22, 2026 article describes icemakers and dispensers as common problem areas and reports survey patterns involving compressor problems in some LG French-door, side-by-side, and bottom-freezer styles. It also discusses Kenmore French-door and side-by-side models, many with LG-manufactured compressors. These are group-level findings, not proof that every refrigerator in a style or brand will fail.

It also reports that 46 percent of new refrigerators purchased since 2016 experienced at least one specified problem. The survey basis included more than 71,534 refrigerators with icemakers purchased new between 2015 and 2025. These are survey estimates and reported experiences, not a forecast for an individual appliance. Consumer Reports refrigerator coverage
For a purchase decision, favor current model-level evidence over broad brand reputations. Compare temperature stability, energy use, capacity relative to exterior dimensions, feature complexity, warranty and service access, and the availability of independent test results. A simpler feature set may be preferable if you do not need an icemaker or dispenser, but survey patterns alone cannot determine which individual model is right for you.
