On a new Primebook, first connect to the internet, finish setup and check for updates; then set a screen lock and review app permissions. After that, tailor the keyboard, trackpad, home screen and window controls to the way you work. Check your Primebook model and PrimeOS version before following any menu instructions: features and labels differ between generations.
1. Identify your Primebook model and PrimeOS version
Primebook’s FAQ lists the first-generation Primebook WiFi and Primebook 4G as Android 11-based PrimeOS devices. Primebook 2 Neo, 2 Pro and 2 Max use Android 15-based PrimeOS 3.0, according to the Primebook FAQ. Because the software base and available features differ, use the controls shown on your own device rather than assuming a guide for another model applies.

2. Finish setup and check for updates online
Connect to the internet while completing initial setup and checking for updates. Primebook says a connection is also needed for app downloads, browsing and features that depend on online services. Many everyday tasks and apps with offline support can still work without a connection afterward. Primebook’s FAQ describes these connection requirements.

Set a screen lock
Choose a PIN or password to protect the Primebook when it is unattended. Primebook confirms that both are supported, but does not identify one as the best choice for every user. Set the option you can reliably remember and enter.

Check app permissions
In Settings, review which apps can access location, camera and storage. Keep access an app needs to perform its intended function; revoke permissions that are unnecessary. Primebook says these controls are available in Settings, as on Android devices generally. See the Primebook FAQ.
4. Make typing and navigation comfortable
Choose your keyboard language
If you type in more than one language, set the keyboard language or languages you actually use. Primebook’s official walkthrough covers changing keyboard language, but the precise control name can vary by software build. Watch Primebook’s how-to video.

Learn the shortcuts and tune input controls
Try the keyboard shortcuts that fit your usual tasks, then adjust keyboard and trackpad behavior if the available settings suit your preferences. PrimeOS supports keyboard and trackpad input, right-click, keyboard shortcuts, resizable windows and a desktop-style taskbar. The FAQ and walkthrough establish these capabilities, but they do not give a complete, universal menu path for every control. Use Settings search, if available, or inspect the controls on your own build rather than relying on a path for a different model. Primebook FAQ · Primebook how-to video.

Optional: check the keyboard-backlight timeout
If your model has a backlit keyboard and the timeout setting, you can decide whether its behavior suits your use. A Primebook administrator said the default is 30 seconds and gave the path Settings → PrimeOS Settings → Keyboard Backlight Timeout, where the setting can be changed to “Never.” This is a model-dependent forum answer, not a confirmed path for every Primebook generation. 5. Set up the home screen and verify essential apps
Arrange the home screen around the apps and tasks you use most. Primebook’s official walkthrough covers home-screen customization as well as searching for and accessing apps. The Prime App Store has an app-request feature, but availability varies; check that apps central to your routine are available and suitable before relying on them. 6. Check display connections for your exact generation
Before planning a monitor setup, confirm which connection your Primebook supports. Primebook says first-generation devices support wired external displays through HDMI. Primebook 2 devices use wireless casting and do not have dedicated wired display ports; 4K external-display support is not currently available on Primebook 2 hardware. These differences mean there is no universal cable or adapter recommendation. Check Primebook’s FAQ for the model-specific details.

7. Change gaming controls only if you need them
PrimeOS keymapping can map keyboard and mouse actions to touch controls in games. If you do not play games that use touch controls, you can skip this setting; it is not a prerequisite for ordinary laptop use. Primebook’s FAQ describes keymapping and other PrimeOS capabilities.
