Phones, laptops, and other devices work directly with XREAL display glasses only when their USB-C port supports DisplayPort video output (DP Alt Mode); a USB-C connector used only for charging or data will not display a picture. The exact glasses model matters, too: for XREAL One, the connected device must also provide 5V/1A. Here’s how to check your device, which examples XREAL lists, and what to use if your source has HDMI instead.
What makes a phone, laptop, or USB-C device compatible?
For a direct USB-C connection, the host device needs a port that outputs video using DisplayPort Alt Mode. The shape of the connector alone does not tell you whether it can do that. A USB-C port limited to charging and data is not enough.

XREAL’s One Series connection guide also specifies that the device interface must provide 5V/1A. XREAL One glasses draw power through the connection and have no built-in battery. Check the requirements for your specific glasses rather than assuming guidance for one generation applies to another.
Check compatibility before connecting
- Identify the glasses model. XREAL One and ROG XREAL R1 have model-specific connection guidance.
- Look up the exact phone, laptop, or device model. Its manufacturer’s specifications should explicitly say USB-C DisplayPort video output, DP Alt Mode, or—where applicable—Thunderbolt support that provides video output.
- For XREAL One, check power as well as video. Confirm the port can supply 5V/1A.
- Check the feature you want separately. A working picture does not guarantee every spatial or display feature. Availability can depend on the device model, operating-system version, and output capabilities.
If the specifications do not clearly state that the USB-C port supports video output, ask the device manufacturer or XREAL support. XREAL does not publish a complete compatibility matrix for every device and glasses generation.

Devices XREAL lists as examples
XREAL’s examples are useful starting points, not certification of every model, regional configuration, or system version in a product family. Confirm the exact device and glasses combination before buying or troubleshooting.
| Glasses documentation | Device examples named |
|---|---|
| XREAL One Series | iPhone 15, 16, and 17; Galaxy S series; iPad Pro (4th generation); Windows laptops with USB-C video; MacBook Pro; Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED; ROG handheld consoles such as ROG Ally; and select desktops such as Mac mini. |
| ROG XREAL R1 | iPhone 15 and 16 series; Android phones that support DP Alt Mode; ROG Strix and Zephyrus laptops; MacBook Pro and Air; Windows laptops supporting Thunderbolt or USB-C DP Alt Mode; ROG Ally; Steam Deck; and Lenovo Legion Go. |
For R1, the examples come from its own documentation and should not be treated as a universal list for other XREAL glasses. Likewise, an example such as “Galaxy S series” does not establish that every generation or configuration has the required port capability.

- SIMULTANEOUS USE AND CHARGE: USB-C to AR Glasses Adapter Mini supports connecting your device to USB C AR glasses and USB-C Portable monitors while powering it up, works with Switch, Switch OLED, Steam Deck, Rog Ally, DJI RC 2 and smartphones, not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, Meta Quest, PICO, HTC Vive VR headsets and Epson AR glasses.
- 2-IN-1 VIDEO AND FAST CHARGING: Compatible with 65W and 100W USB-C fast chargers for quick power delivery, to ensure optimal performance and protect your devices, use the original charger matching your device’s power requirements: Switch/Switch OLED (15W), ROG Ally (65W), Steam Deck (45W) . Supports 4K 60Hz and 1080P 120Hz output(Note: It's compatibility not enhancement, your device needs to have such high performance), fits Rokid, Xreal, RayNeo and Viture series AR glasses.
- SMARTPHONE USAGE REMINDER: Verify your phone’s Type-C port supports DisplayPort video output before purchase. Due to the limited compatibility of the MINI chip in the HUB when iPhone 15 to 17 series paired with some AR glasses may show screen flicker. We recommend that users of iPhone 15 to 17 series purchase our higher-compatibility updated hubs. Search for ASIN B0G59TSXFP or B0GD1WS14Q on Amazon.
- AR GLASSES USAGE REMINDER: For no sound or no video issues on Xreal AR glasses, switch the glasses to DisplayPort Alt Mode following the official manual, not for HDMI-only devices like PS4, PS5 and Xbox, search ASIN B0DSZXZSTX for our dedicated HDMI to USB-C hub, do not use two hubs together.
- Viture Beast AR GLASSES USAGE REMINDER: Please do not update Viture Beast to a system version released after June 2026, as this may cause the HUB to be incompatible with Viture Beast. If you have already upgraded, please roll back the system to the May version (0.01.024_20260521).
What if the device has HDMI or DisplayPort instead?
An HDMI- or DisplayPort-only source needs compatible conversion hardware to connect to USB-C glasses. Use the connection path documented for your glasses model; do not assume a passive USB-C-to-HDMI cable will work in either direction. The adapter must handle video conversion and the required power arrangement. The official guidance does not validate every third-party adapter.

ROG XREAL R1
R1 documentation specifies the ROG Control Dock for HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4 sources; the dock connects to the glasses through USB-C. Named use cases include desktop computers, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. For Switch, the documentation says to use the original Nintendo dock.
When are XREAL Hub or Beam Pro useful?
XREAL Hub
XREAL lists the Hub for Switch and Switch OLED, Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED, ROG Ally, and smartphones with DP-enabled USB-C, paired with listed XREAL glasses. Its stated role includes charging while the glasses are in use. Check the Hub’s current compatibility information for your exact glasses and source device; it is not a universal requirement for all direct connections.

- HDMI-to-USB-C: This HUB features the capability to convert HDMI video output ports into USB-C video output ports, designed for the following use cases: Connecting Switch OLED/Switch 2 to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting PS4/PS5 to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting Xbox to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting TV boxes to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting Laptop (with HDMI port) to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. The hub's USB-C video output port supports to RayNeo/VITURE/Xreal/Rokid AR Glasses, as well as portable displays.
- DP Protocol Video Output: Xreal AR glasses connect correct to the HUB but there is no sound or not video on glasses, you need to switch the Xreal AR glasses to DP Mode(𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞) according to the AR glasses manual. Except for Xreal AR glasses, which require switching to glasses mode, AR glasses from other brands do not require this. This hub is not compatible with the Meta Quest/PICO/HTC Vive VR-Headsets and Epson AR Glasss.
- Compatible with USB-C Portable Monitors: The HUB's power cable can only supply power to AR glasses and displays, with a maximum power output of 10W (5V 2A). It cannot power source devices, so source devices require separate charging. When using a USB-C portable display, you must first connect an external power source to the display before connecting it to the hub. Otherwise, the display may operate intermittently or experience screen blackouts. Please note the power consumption of the monitor.
- Note the Source Device Interface: This HUB is used for Switch, PS4/5, XBox, TV Box, and other video output devices need to make sure your device has HDMI video output port, if there is no HDMI video output port but has USB C video output port, we recommend using a USB-C to USB-C hub. Of course, we also sell USB-C to USB-C hub, please search Amazon ASIN B0G59TSXFP. However, do not use these two HUBs together at the same time. The hub is not compatible with the DHCP feature on PS4/PS5, laptops, or other HDMI source devices. Please disable the DHCP feature on your device before connecting it to the hub; otherwise, the hub may not function properly.
- Note the HUB's Interfaces Connection is Stable: You can connect a Portable Charger to the HUB to keep it working properly, thereby solving the power supply issue for the HUB during travel. If a display malfunction occurs, please unplug and replug the cables to ensure each connection is secure and free from looseness. Or replace the 4K HDMI cable and power cable. If you need to use the display's touchscreen functionality, you can check out another hub by searching for Amazon ASIN B0GGR7TCYT.
Beam Pro
Beam Pro is an optional companion device, not a prerequisite for ordinary direct screen mirroring from a compatible phone or laptop. XREAL’s US Shop describes its right USB-C port as a standard DP Alt video-output port and names Air, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, and Air 2 Ultra as compatible glasses. The Beam Pro product page also describes spatial experiences with Air, Air 2, Air 2 Pro, One, and One Pro, and full-featured 6DoF support with Air 2 Ultra. Those are Beam Pro companion-use claims, not a universal list of devices that connect directly to glasses.

Note: Ensure your AR glasses or USB-C portable monitor supports DP Alt Mode (video+audio input). If no audio, check device settings and set to DisplayPort (DP).
- 【HDMI to USB-C One-Way Direction】 This is a strictly unidirectional HDMI to USB-C adapter — the HDMI male plug always connects to your HDMI source device (Switch 2/1, PS5, Xbox, Steam Deck, laptop, or streaming stick), and the USB-C female port always connects to your AR glasses or portable monitor. Plugging it backward will result in no signal. This is an HDMI source to USB-C display converter only — it cannot convert USB-C sources to HDMI displays. Please double-check your connection direction before use.
- 【Play & Charge with 5V Power Port】This HDMI to USB C adapter features a Type-C 5V power port to supply power directly to connected USB-C displays or AR glasses, ensuring stable operation during use. It MUST be connected to an external power source to function. Also supports USB-C portable monitors and USB-C projectors.
- 【DP Protocol Video Output】Xreal AR glasses connect correct to the HUB but there is no sound or not video on glasses, you need to switch the Xreal AR glasses to DP Mode(DisplayPort Alt Mode) according to the AR glasses manual. Except for Xreal AR glasses, which require switching to glasses mode, AR glasses from other brands do not require this. If there is no video output after connecting your laptop or PS4/PS5 to the AR glasses, you need to disable the DHCP function on the HDMI output of your laptop or PS4/PS5. This hub is not compatible with the Meta Quest/PICO/HTC Vive VR-Headsets and Epson AR Glasss.
For example, the XREAL One Series feature table lists UltraWide mode for Android devices with desktop mode (such as DeX), iPad, Android tablets, Windows, MacBook, Windows handhelds, and Steam Deck. It marks the feature unavailable for Android without desktop mode, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation.
ROG XREAL R1 documentation says its 240Hz capability depends on the host’s output, display settings, and content; its troubleshooting guidance says phones and Switch may be limited to 60Hz. These limits refer to R1 and should not be generalized to other glasses models.
