How to Set Up XREAL Glasses With a Phone, Laptop, or Gaming Device

Before connecting XREAL glasses, check that your device can send video over its USB-C port. A USB-C connector by itself is not enough: direct connection requires DisplayPort (DP) video output. If your device has HDMI instead, you’ll need an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter confirmed compatible with your glasses. XREAL’s One-series instructions also specify 5V/1A power for direct connections. XREAL One Series connection guide

Check compatibility before you connect

Identify the exact glasses generation and device model first. For a direct USB-C connection, the device’s port must support DP video output and provide the required power. A charge-only port or cable will not display an image. If you’re unsure whether a port supports video, check the device maker’s specifications and the guide for your XREAL model.

  • USB-C with DP video: use the included USB-C cable for a direct connection.
  • HDMI output only: use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter intended for XREAL glasses, and verify its video compatibility and power requirements.
  • Replacement cable: choose a full-featured USB-C cable that supports DP video transmission; charging support alone is insufficient.

Connection requirements can differ by glasses generation and device revision. XREAL’s One Series guide and its guide for xbxa01 glasses describe their respective connection options.

Connect a phone

  1. Confirm that your specific phone model supports video output over USB-C. A connector’s shape does not establish video compatibility.
  2. Plug the angled end of the included cable into the glasses.
  3. Connect the other end to the phone’s USB-C port. The glasses receive power from the connected device.

XREAL lists examples including later USB-C iPhones and selected Galaxy and other Android phones, but those examples do not guarantee compatibility for every model or software version. Check your phone’s specifications and the guide for your glasses before relying on a particular setup. See XREAL’s device connection guide.

Connect a laptop or computer

Computer with USB-C DP output

Connect the included cable to the glasses and to a USB-C port on the computer that supports DP video output. If the computer has multiple USB-C ports, check the specifications for the particular port you plan to use.

Computer with HDMI output

Use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter compatible with your XREAL glasses. Confirm the adapter’s video and power requirements rather than assuming a generic HDMI adapter will work. XREAL’s One Series user guide covers connection paths for computers and other devices.

Set up UltraWide Mode

For UltraWide Mode on a computer, XREAL instructs users to set the glasses as an extended display. Mirroring may retain the main screen’s aspect ratio and prevent the intended wide effect. Availability depends on the host: XREAL’s UltraWide Mode guide lists support for some computers and other devices, but not every host or operating mode.

Connect a handheld gaming device

XREAL lists Steam Deck, Steam Deck OLED, and ROG handhelds among devices that can connect directly over USB-C, provided the port supports DP video output. Connect the included cable between the handheld and the glasses. Feature availability and refresh behavior can depend on the host and its software version; consult the documentation for both devices if the image or a particular mode does not behave as expected. See XREAL’s One Series connection instructions.

XREAL xbx a01+ AR Glasses, 147'' Big-Screen Display for Movies & Gaming
  • YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
  • ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
  • 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
  • LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.

Connect a Nintendo Switch

Do not treat the Switch like a DP-capable USB-C handheld. XREAL’s One-series instructions specify the XREAL Hub for Switch, Switch 2, and Switch OLED; other XREAL documentation also describes a hub-based connection. Requirements can vary by glasses generation and device revision, so follow the instructions for your exact glasses and Switch setup before buying an accessory. Consult the One Series guide and the One Series user guide.

Connect PlayStation, Xbox, or another HDMI device

For a console or computer that provides HDMI rather than USB-C DP video, use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter that is compatible with your glasses. Check the adapter’s power requirements and confirm that it supports the intended connection; not every generic adapter is suitable. XREAL’s One Series user guide describes the HDMI connection path.

Understand power and feature limits

XREAL glasses have no built-in battery: they draw power from the connected device. This means power depends on the host and the connection, so there is no single runtime figure that applies to every setup. XREAL recommends the Hub for simultaneous charging in certain configurations; check the instructions for your glasses and host to see whether that applies to yours. XREAL device connection guidance

Features also depend on the device and connection mode. UltraWide Mode is not universal: XREAL’s One-series feature table lists some computers, tablets, handhelds, and Android desktop modes, while not listing iPhone, standard Android, Switch, Xbox, or PlayStation for that feature. Check the device compatibility information and UltraWide instructions for the exact host you plan to use.

Also works with USB-C smartphones, tablets, laptops, gaming handhelds, and streaming devices — one cable for your complete AR and mobile setup. Backed by responsive customer support.

Troubleshoot a missing image or unexpected display

  • No image over USB-C: confirm that the connected port supports DP video output, not just charging or data.
  • No image through an adapter: verify that the adapter is intended for XREAL glasses and meets the connection’s video and power requirements.
  • Charge-only cable: replace it with the included cable or a full-featured USB-C cable rated for DP video.
  • Switch not displaying: check whether your exact glasses and Switch setup requires the XREAL Hub or another specified accessory.
  • UltraWide does not appear wide on a computer: set the glasses as an extended display and check whether the host supports the selected aspect ratio.
  • Concern about charging while using the glasses: check whether a Hub is supported for simultaneous charging in your particular setup.
