The best alternative depends on what you mean by college planning. For studying and organizing coursework, Google Gemini has documented student features such as study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes. For applications, Halo and Admit describe workspaces built around essays, school research and deadlines. Access, pricing and features can change, so confirm current terms—and check important admissions details with official sources.
Start with the kind of college planning you need
Coursework support and application management are different jobs. A study assistant may help organize class materials without tracking application deadlines; an application workspace may manage essays and school lists without being designed for class notes. Choose by task rather than assuming one tool covers both.

- For coursework: look for help organizing course materials, building study plans and practicing concepts.
- For applications: look for a place to keep school research, essays, deadlines, scholarships and profile details together.
For coursework and study organization: Google Gemini
Google describes a student hub with study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes. Students can upload class materials to a notebook, receive a learning plan and diagnostic quiz, and—with permission—add key dates such as exams and assignments to Google Calendar. These are features described by Google, not independent findings about how well they work. Google’s announcement provides the product details.
Google’s August 19, 2026 announcement says eligible college students in the United States can receive one year of Google AI Pro at no cost; it states the plan’s value as $19.99 per month. Eligible college students outside the U.S. may receive one year of Google AI Plus. This is a dated, eligibility-dependent offer, not a standing price guarantee. Check Google’s current terms and eligibility before signing up.
#1 Best Overall
Check whether your college provides access
Campus licenses can change what students can use and which account or data rules apply. UCLA’s Digital & Technology Solutions page, marked updated October 2026, lists Google Gemini, Google Education Plus, Google Gemini Notebook and Microsoft Copilot Chat as included for UCLA students, alongside license and data-classification notes. That is an example of one institution’s setup, not a guarantee for other colleges. Check your school’s official IT guidance for available tools and permitted data.
For application organization: Halo
Halo describes a workspace for brainstorming, essay drafting and organization, school research and deadline tracking. The company says its coaching approach does not ghostwrite and that it uses school-related context in feedback; those are vendor claims, not independently validated outcomes. Halo lists a free tier and paid options, but its displayed pricing can change. Review the live offer, privacy terms and feature limits before deciding.
Rank #2
Its central distinction from a general chat interface is organization: application-related context and tasks can sit together rather than being rebuilt in separate conversations. That can reduce the work of keeping track of a process, but there is no basis here to say using Halo improves admission chances.

Admit describes a profile-aware AI advisor, school and essay trackers, deadline reminders and a scholarship tracker. Its page lists a free plan and a paid Pro plan with features including AI essay review and unlimited advisor messages. These are live vendor descriptions and plan details; check the current page for price, availability and what each tier includes.
Rank #3
Admit may suit a student who wants application tasks and profile context in one tracker. As with any AI advisor, use it to organize and develop ideas, not as the final authority on a college’s requirements or deadlines.
How to choose and use an alternative safely
- Define the job. Decide whether you primarily need class-study support, application organization, or both. A specialized tracker and a general study assistant address different needs.
- Check continuity. See whether the service keeps your school list, profile, drafts and deadlines together, and whether you can review or correct that information.
- Confirm access and cost. Compare free tiers, paid plans, time-limited student offers and campus licenses. Verify current terms directly; do not assume a school license or promotion applies to you.
- Review privacy and school policy. Before entering grades, personal details, essays or other sensitive information, check the service’s privacy terms and your college’s rules for AI tools and data.
- Verify consequential facts at the source. Confirm admission requirements, application deadlines, costs and financial-aid details on the college’s official site or with the relevant application authority. Treat AI answers as a starting point, not confirmation.
What vendor claims can—and cannot—tell you
Product pages explain what a service says it offers; they do not establish comparative accuracy or admissions outcomes. Collegize, for example, displays a 98% satisfaction rate and an 85% “Admitted Into a Top Choice” figure on its own page. The reviewed page does not establish the methodology, denominator or independent validation, so those numbers should not be treated as general admissions results.
Rank #4
The College CoPilot search result describes personalized four-year roadmaps, scholarship discovery and weekly lessons, but its full page was not available for review. Its availability, details and pricing are therefore not established here. An arXiv preprint describes EZCollegeApp as a research system that uses official admissions-site materials and retrieval-based assistance with a human in the loop; it does not establish a generally available consumer product.
No independently verified comparative study or performance benchmark establishes one of these services as the best overall. Choose based on the workflow you need, then verify its current features and terms.
